Please help my comp techie friends...
My computer crashed the other night...dead as a doornail! Really bad. Didn't do a backup for a LOOOONG time. Praying that I'll be able to retrieve some of the info...
ANYWAY, I've managed to get my 4 printers connected to my 10 year old laptop. They print fine from word, but when I try to print from adobe, when I push print, it just closes altogether.
I had to update adobe, of course, before I could use it. I'm not sure if there's something in adobe I need to do or something with the computer I need to do.
Any clue what the "hail" I'm talking about? lol Any advice or suggestions? TIA

Last year the same thing happened to be...fried motherboard....and I was worried about losing my data. Good news, it still there (the info). If you can afford to take it to a place tha fixes computer you can (1) have them repair yours, I did, it cost me $448 or (2) have the transfer all your info to another computer $100 - $175 or just have them replace the motherboard and start all over again. Computers are so cheap now, if and when it happens to me again, I just going to purchase a new one and start over again. A lot of my important stuff arrived via email or I send it from one email account to another. That way I can retrieve that info from any where I can log on.

You can actually get all the info off the hard drive yourself very easily. There is a kit you can purchase. I have one myself and you just turn the laptop over, remove the plate that covers the hard drive and there are connectors that come with the kit. You connect the hard drive on one end and the USB end goes into your new or other computer. It will show up like an additional drive on your computer.

My suggestion
take it to a pro, from past computer issues everything on it will be lost (backup back up) cost for a pro to restore will range from 125-200 bucks.
Now if you say it's 10 yrs old time to buy a cheap laptop Best Buy 600-700 will get you up and running. Now if you can do it I have 3 laptops 2 Ipads and PC Tower the tower acts as a shared hard drive and back up for all laptops.
good luck, with it being EOM you may need to buy something quick, it will still take half a day to update and load drivers.

Go to IE and update windows, not sure what XPS you have if it is as old as you say it may not be a dual core system.
uninstall Adobe X and look for Adobe 9.x and download it. Time for system upgrade.

time for you to also find
a nice kid who is to be your personal guru. ... I have Momma Motherboard and cannot say enough good stuff about her and my good fortune in finding her when I did.
Like Michael, I don't fiddle with mine for very long. Time is money and Momma M. is much faster than I will ever be, thereby, saving me stress, time and money. I met her while standing in line for a gyro at a Farmer's Market. I could see her signs on her car so started talking, exchanging cards, then small problem arose and I gave her a chance. She was in my area, came to my home, fixed the problem in 5 mins. then told me it was $75 per hour, what could she do for the remainder of that hour.
WOW - blew me away. We did all kinds of clean up, showed me lots and it was the best $75 I ever spent. My last guru had had me get an external hard drive for back up, a Seagate Free Agent Go, and every day at 3am it backs me up. I don't have to worry about 'digging out'.
In all seriousness, find a guru now for the future - stress causes lines that only a plastic surgeon can erase.

Adobe X might be your problem. I'd delete that and re-install Adobe 9. See Msg #391983. Regarding your computer, you're probably better off buying a new one and taking the old hard drive and putting it in your new computer as a second drive or as my son says, a "slave" drive. I had the same problem a couple of years ago when my computer crashed. I was more concerned about all my pictures of the grandkids then any other files. I purchased a new computer for about what James paid to have his fixed and I have my "slave" drive with all my pictures as well as all my NP business files.

DORIS, you were right!!! Thank you (and thank G*D)
It took me FOREVER to find the Adobe 9, it it kept wanting me to do AdobeX. Anyway, after an incredible amount of stress, tenacity, diligence, etc., I GOT it and was able to print out my two sets of doc's for today. I have three or four for tomorrow so I was really sweatin it! tee hee
Thanks again! You're my new hero!
