Recycling toner @ Staples is worth it

For the second time in the past 2 months I picked up a free case of paper at Staples. I started recycling my toner cartridges and have asked family and friends to give me theirs. I recycle 20 cartridges per month and have been getting a monthly $40 Reward coupon for my efforts.

Today I received an email for 20% off any single item, between the 20% off coupon and my $40 Rewards coupon I walked out of Staples with a case of letter size paper and a big old container of prezels for my hubby :-)

Hi Maggie, I, too, recycle at Staples! LOVE it! But I was told there is a 10 cartridge max per month. Was that 2 $20 coupons? I don't think it would be different here on the East Coast, do you? Are you having to download your coupons from the website now? They just started doing that.

It's a great perk for sure!

Premier Membership has additional perks

If you spend a certain dollar amount per year at the store they allow you to recycle 20 cartridges each month and you receive more coupons via email. I purchased a computer earlier this year from them for my son and I guess that's when I became a premier member. I believe it's a yearly thing so I probably won't be able to recycle 20 a month this time next year.

I didn't know about spending a certain dollar amount...

That's pretty cool. And good to know.

I'm a believer in joining the programs that give you rewards for shopping. I belong to Office Depot, Staples, PetsMart, Petco...see the pattern. Anybody that's going to give me something extra for my buying products I need from them, I'm all for it.

And for those who shop online, I also belong to EBates, MyPoints, InBoxDollars, and several others that give you dollars (yeah, CASH) for shopping. Then there are the "deal" sites that offer 2-fers and freebies. I also sign up for emails from the restaurants we frequent. I've gotten 3 free meals for my birthday in the last 2 weeks.

When I'm through with marketing my businesses for the day, I run through the various opportunities. I just got a $32 check this week for clicking on emails. Easier on me than dumpster diving for coupons Smile

If you want more info, PM me. I get points for referrals from most, so you'd be helping us both.

Wait a minute...

" between the 20% off coupon and my $40 Rewards coupon I walked out of Staples with a case of letter size paper and a big old container of prezels for "

What am I missing here? How much was that "letter size" paper to begin with that you ended up paying over $40 for it? Maybe the correct questions is how much were the dang pretzels?

I know I HAVE to be missing something, but this doesn't sound like a deal at all - considering there's always specials of letter-size paper for $2.99/ream ($29.99/case)...

Maybe they were really big pretzels?

Or maybe she picked up a pen or two like this -- http://www.greatbigstuff.com/pen.html

Re: I was serious!! She spent $40 PLUS applied a 20%

I use to go to staples because of the coupons, discounts and recycling toner cartridges. Then I realized there was an Office Depot and Best Buy four blocks from my house. The nearest staples was 8 miles from my house.
Calculating gas, time and distance I realized $100 with discount at Staples still cost me more than $110.00 at the other two. Duh?

I forgot to mention that I have a $12.68 balance

left from the $40 coupon... and Staples is ONE WHOLE BLOCK closer to my house than Office Depot. And $29.99 cash out of pocket in comparison to $0.00 cash out of pocket????

Since you guys are so good at math, you figure it out

LOL
