Scheduling Conflict....Please Advise.
I am scheduled to do two closings this evening, one at 6:00 p.m. and one at 8:00 p.m. The borrowers live 15 minutes from each other so I thought this would be ample time for me to finish one closing and have time for a second closing. I just got a call from the lender though that the 6:00 p.m. docs are incorrect due to a trust issue and we may not be closing this evening. However, when I called the borrower to let them know this, they told me that the bank is moving the closing to 8:00 p.m. Yikes!!!! What should I do? This has never happened to me before. I called te 8:00 p.m. appointment to see if they were flexible and they have football equipment pick up for their son this evening and cannot get home any earlier. Can someone please advise what they would do in this situation. Thank you so much for your help.

The only thing you can do is tell the company that's moving the appt you already have an 8pm. I wouldn't try to change the 8pm to another time. Maybe it can be moved from 6pm to 9:30pm. A closing shouldn't take you more then 45 minutes.

I'm amazed that you have never had this happen before. You are very fortunate. Late docs cause conflicts ALL the time.
You can only do what you can do. Advise the hiring party you have another appt. at 8pm but could do this one afterward. Keep in mind you'll need time to get home and print if the docs aren't ready before you need to leave for your 6pm. If they can't work with your availability, they'll have to find another notary (and if the appointment's in Anoka County, give them my name)

Hopefully , you will get the dox for the "6:00" prior to
having to leave for the 8:00PM This kind of stuff happens. Just tell them that you will get there ASAP after finishing the other appointment, and that you will call them when you are on your way. They problably want to loan to close ASAP after going thru the application process, and will be flexible. Be sure to let the hiring entity know what is happening Good luck.

You can only react to the information you have, and right now, you do not have updated docs for the 6 pm (that is apparently moved to 8). I would contact those borrowers and let them know you will call them when you receive documents and that you have a conflicting appointment at 8 pm. If they live 15 minutes from each other, (and if docs come in for the 6 pm, now moved to 8 pm signing), I would do the other confirmed signing, then go to the rescheduled signing after that. You can sign up to midnight.
Or, if docs come in early, do that one earlier then your 8 pm appointment. It's ok to have the borrowers work around your other commitments....and the fact you don't have documents for the one signing should not cause the other one to not sign. Do that one, then address the rescheduled signing, based on document availability. These folks are now in "second" position tonight.
Just make sure you call the borrowers once you receive documents.....they can then determine whether they are available to sign and then you can respond to their timeframe based on your other commitments.
I'm really surprised this is the first time you have had conflicts. This is an issue that comes up all the time. You can only respond to the signings where you have the documents. If you need to give the signings back because you cannot accomodate the signings within an appropriate amount of time and your availability, then that's what you have to do. You'll get through it!
Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your great advice and support. I have been so very lucky with my docs......but today it didn't happen like that. I have already called te borrowers to let them know I will keep them posted as to when I get docs. They were very kind. I can come to their house as late as 9:30 p.m. they said. I will call title company now and let them know. Thank you again everyone!

I, too, am surpiried this has never happened to u before!
Here's what I do, for what it's worth:
When one loan appt. goes south, don't engage in the domino theory and turn to the loan(s) that has already been confirmed and try to get them to change. Focus on the problem loan. Put the problem loan to the back of the line because it is now out of your control. You don't need to start pulling your hair out trying to accommodate the problem loan. You can only do what you can do. In this case, tell the borrowers that you will be there after your 8 p.m. (if you actually get the docs!) and if that is not acceptable to them turn the signing back.
Sometimes, calling the confirmed people (in this case, the football borrowers) and trying to jack them around might work, but for the most part it never does. Everything starts to get all tangled up. Fact is, the lender has already told you the signing might not even happen today but the borrowers have told you another story! Who knows when this will end? The problem loan is now in the hands of the lender/TC/ and borrowers. Keep it their problem, don't make it yours.

Peg, Your 8:00 appointment takes priority now. The other one has to work around your schedule because you have a prior committment. It's their fault not yours.
