So pissxx off at my cellular carrier...

I hate it when I don't even get the call and it goes directly to voicemail. Last week I purchased a panasonic home phone that I can link to my cell via bluetooth so I won't be missing any calls so I place my phone in the best reception area of my house and I carry my panasonic in my pocket, well I didn't get this other call this morning because it went right to voicemail, when I called the company they already hired someone.

I was with my cell carrier to see if I can get a verizon network extender for my house, but they want 249.99 for it.

Well thanks for the vent, I feel better now, LOL.

AT&T

Offered me the pleasure of purchasing my own person mini cell tower to attach to my computer to receive reception at my house in Washington State for a mere $199!

I passed, I'm in Washington 3 weeks a year and I decided not to get DSL service because I'm cheap!!!!

I did tell the AT&T rep that with 5 cell phone lines on my account and my thinking of going to the dark side (Verizon), I thought they should pay me the $19,000 to install a cell phone tower on my property in WA and all the Verizon people would flock to AT&T because they would now have signal!

Re: AT&T

Tell Verizon that you won't continue with them unless they give you a deal on the extender. I got one last year for a significant discount (I think I paid $75 but not really sure). It made a really big difference. Now I can depend on my cell in the house with 4 bars when I used to have no service. I now get all the calls that went right to voicemail.

Re: I'm suprised, AT&T offered and sent me my tower

Neither AT&T nor Verizon will give us a network extender, nor a discount on one. I've heard that they do it for Iphone customers, though (I don't have an Iphone). I just fulfilled my two year contract with Verizon and I thought they would be calling me bugging me to get 5 new phones (family plan) and sign a new two year contract, at which point I was going to try and get a free network extender out of them. But go figure they haven't called. My husband's work will not pay for a network extender for his AT&T work phone.

I don't quite understand what you are doing with

the bluetooth / land line setup, but it sure sounds like you are taking the long, expensive way around the barn. I live in an area that has lousy cell service no matter what carrier. I simply forward my cell phone to my land line, then turn the cell off. Rings right to the land line. Never have missed any calls.

Re: I don't quite understand what you are doing with

Forwarding calls to the land line is a great option for some. Unfortunately, it would not work in my family because I don't want my kids answering my business calls if the land line rings. I made a decision long ago not to use the land line for business calls for just that reason. If you don't have kids in the house, then it's a good option though. Also in my case, my husband works from home and is always using the land line for his conference calls for work, so that line is tied up for much of the day.

Re: I don't quite understand what you are doing with

Yeah, kids all grown up. I also grew up in a different time. As kids, we weren't allowed to answer the phone when there were adults home to answer it. And the time we could talk on the phone was limited to a minute or two. No call waiting, party lines ..... what fun

I also did not allow my kids to answer unless I or my wife told them to. No long talking either. That was also mostly before cell phones and the home phone was the only link to work.

Gosh, how did we survive before cell phones??

Suggestion, Copperhead

Copperhead...

Can u get a second phone line into your house? Even my dopey landline carrier offers a second line with a different number. Of course, it costs, but not that much more. Also, check out if some landline phones have different ring tones, so if u had a second line, it would ring differently than the phone the kids always pick up....or the one your hubby uses.

I have terrible service in my house - I've tried both both AT&T and Verizon and the issue is the way my house is situated. We have Verizon cell phones right now and my husband has an AT&T work phone (he works from the house) and he can barely get calls on it unless he places it in one certain tiny spot in his home office. Verizon is not much better, so yes it makes it difficult when receiving loan closing calls at home on the cell. I've been thinking of buying a Wilson Electronics signal booster kit, which is a device that supposedly creates a hot spot of sorts in your house, but I haven't made a decision yet as to whether to purchase it. What I like about it is that it works for all carriers and does not hook up to your internet, as the Verizon and AT&T network extenders do.

Does anyone have one of these and can give a review?

I feel your pain...

I've made numerous complaints to Sprint about signal issues in my area. They say they cover the area, but the signal is so incredibly sketchy that half the time I end up roaming on the Verizon network, if I get a signal at all. It's frustrating to me to always tell people they may lose me. I even have it on my voice mail message. It's totally out of my control, and it makes running a mobile business very difficult.

The really, really annoying thing? This past weekend I was in a really remote area about an hour north of me (Randsburg, CA) ... a GHOST TOWN, really, and I had FULL BAR signal. This is a town of less than 150 residents! This is an old, decaying mining town with, literally, houses that are falling apart everywhere and they have a great tower on the hill. Now, it it is a bit of a tourist spot, especially with off-roaders... but, then so is the town where I live. There's no excuse. Seriously... if you google it... there's NOTHING out there.

Re: I feel your pain...

Interestingly enough... after I posted this, I put in a call to Sprint again to complain and I asked if I could qualify for their access point/mini tower in my home. Turns out they said I qualified (because I've complained a billion times, I'm sure) and they're not only sending it to me for free, but waiving the monthly fee for it, too.

It'll only help me when I'm at home, though, and not while I'm on the road... but it's a start.

What about call forwarding your cell phone to a land line, if you have one? I do this so that I only have to have one phone to lug around the house.

When I forward mobile calls to my home line, if I answer the call, I'm charged for those minutes.

Re: How can you be charged for calls you use your landline for?

Because the call is being forward by the mobile network... I've always been charged. Actually, I take that back... it doesn't use cell minutes on my plan, but they charge me 20 cents a minute for calls that I answer when forwarded to a land line.

Here's a support article that talks about it:

I'm going to admit - I'm not going to read the article

I'll say this - that's Sprint for you..

I had Sprint when we first moved here when they bought out Nextel - never had a signal - such bad service it wasn't funny - a salesman called me one day on my cell to push a new plan with me - the signal dropped 3 times - he called again and asked "does that happen all the time?" I told him yep, and now he knows why I'm not interested in Spring any longer.

I had Verizon for 3+ years - forwarded calls from cell to home landline - NEVER charged to do it ... and no minutes used.

I just switched to Straight Talk - same thing - no charge for forwarding and no minutes used.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with them, either... but I have a fantastic discount with them that I don't want to lose by switching to another carrier and paying more.

OOOHHHH YEAHHH! Don't even get me started with ATT... I was on the phone with them for over 3 hrs this morning trying to get an issue resolved with a new phone order. I Phone they sent kept saying no sim and dropped calls right in the middle of a conversation saying - call failed. They said it was the sim card that was bad. It was not it is the phone. So yes I missed some calls too!!! Had to send it back and they said they ordered another one. It was supposed to be here today... It was not. My old phone is getting tired the LCD barely works. I called them and found out that they NEVER actually ordered the replacement. 3 hours of trying to get them to send me a new phone. Finally got them to send me a replacement but not the phone I wanted. Told me it should be here on Friday...just praying my phone lasts till Friday... I don't have a back up if this one goes...

I had verizon and it happened....have sprint and it's happened. I get a good signal in all parts of my home, sitting with the phone next to me and it will send a call to voicemail. It's just the nature of the beast.

Something you may not know about network extenders

I bought one of these bad boys from Verizon about a year ago. Wow. What a difference it made while I was home. However, and this is the bad part, especially in our line of work; it only works while at home or within the network extender area. (And I know my little run-on sentence was back there but I liked it).

For instance. If I was on the phone with someone while driving home (hands free of course) and went home. As soon as I got close to driveway or front door, the call dropped. The same happened if I originated the call while home, then went out to car to leave, after being about 100 feet away from the house, the call dropped. It was so aggrivating I had to turn it back in. It just seemed that I was always on the phone when coming home and when leaving. Just my 2 cents.
