The Doc Signers, AZ
Everyone says this company is great to work with, so I want to sign up with them. But I don't want to pay their $35 to get in their system if it's just a scam. I just became a notary this month and I want to start generating jobs, but is this worth it?

In a word: No. If you've read this board for the last week alone, you'd know business is slow and you'd be far better off relying on your listing on he tried & true sites like this one.

I just completed an assignment for Doc Signers, Inc. and didn't have to pay the $35.00 fee. But, then, they called me, I didn't contact them. They also paid well and right after the signing. I think someone wrote that they no longer charge the $35.00 fee, but I might be wrong about that.
There's lots of information on marketing on this forum. Go to the orange search button and type in marketing or any other subject you're interested in and you'll find plenty of information.

My 2 cents: If you are just starting out, there are sooooooooo many other companies you can list with that don't charge any fee. Get some work (and money!) under your belt and then decide where it's most efficient to spend your advertising budget.

For some of the companies that charge a fee to get into their data base - at least the ones rated well - that fee may be a way of saying "don't call us; we'll call you"... Getting lots of phone calls from notaries that would like to get their assignments can be a very time consuming thing. Also, if they only hire highly experienced people, you're going to be out the fee for getting into their data base.
As the other poster(s) said, there are lots of other fish in the sea.

No I would not pay to be listed in Doc Signers database. Put that money towards purchasing a premium listing here on Notary Rotary, a site where many, many companies come to look for notaries.

The Doc Signers are an excellent company to work with. They always meet my fees, and they pay within a couple of days. I did not pay a fee but they contacted me I did not sign up with them, so that may be the difference.

I've worked for them for years and never paid a fee to sign up with them. They're hands-down my favorite! Side note: I don't pay a sign-up fee for any company.
