help on printing to Brother HL-5370DWT

Just got this printer and has tray 2. Added and defined both but when trying to print docs it isn't printing using both trays. I defined both. Tray 1 shows letter and Tray 2 is legal. What am I missing to get this to print using both trays?

Did you set it to "autoselect"?

Under "Printing Preferences" - "Paper/Quality" - at least on my computer...

Just a thought from a non-techy..

Re: Did you set it to "autoselect"?

under the preferences paper size is legal and the paper source is first page auto select and other pages are same as first but only printing on legal.

That was my best shot...I have no idea...:)

Hopefully one of the techies will be around soon to help - meanwhile, do a search here - I know printer setup has been discussed before...

Re: That was my best shot...I have no idea...:)

I have a HL-5370DW. The preferences I have for printing, using both trays, are: set the paper size to letter, set the paper source to first page - auto select and the second page to same as the first page. Make sure page scaling on advanced settings is off. That should work!....

My settings are the same...but... if I remember correctly, this is a program set up command to get the second tray initialized. I don't remember as it has been so long, but I do think that I had to install the second tray somehow.

Someone else will be here shortly to assist, or you could just call Brother or go to their online help.

Brother has US based and I believe India based tech support. ALWAYS be asked to be transferred to US based tyech support, they are great. Call for US based support during normal US business hours M-F.

i just went through the same thing and you need to add the tray. Go to printers. right click and go to properties. go to accessories tab, click on tray 2 and add it. once you do this you can also change settings to auto for the paper selection and you' re all set.

Your software/setup prob similar to mine. Go to NaNarintersand faxes> properties>right cick on 5370>accessories make sure LT5300 is recognized as attached and has been INSTALLED. If not installed won't work. Left cloumn highlight LT-5300> add >should move to installed.

open a .PDF file, > click print, make sure BOTH boxes are checked **Auto rtate and center** and ** Choose paper source by PDF page size*** THIS second box could be your prob if 2nd tray was properly installed to begin with.

Paper scaling: Some use NONE, others use size to fit. YMMV

Also, in your original setup for printer find out how to set the default DPI (dots per inch) to 300, as the default is usually 600. This will save toner and will not affect how the docs look.

As an aside, some years ago I swapped legal paper to tray 1 and letter to tray2. My reasoning? 1)It takes a slight bit of extra time for legal to travel from tray 2 to be printed, so if I save just a little time, I won't be as frustrated waiting to print and dash out the door. Some docs are still printed on legal only, which saves some wear and tear on the Lower Tray, Its not used at all. Less wear and tear on the LT means I'll be able to transfer it to another machine.

Good luck, and report back if this helped so others will know. Just reread your orig post, duh, disregard most of what I said, your problem is probably ***Choose paper by PDF size.

No - don't disregard - I think he's got it here!

This is what I meant about the software/initialization of equipment. I think this is what you need to do.

BrotherOwner: his settings match mine (same model) and I do remember having to get installed and may have to go back to installation disk. It has just been so long and I had my problems and have forgotten how solved. You just outlined (I think) what I had to do.

Re: No - don't disregard - I think he's got it here!

If you are using windows 7, go devices and printers. Right click on on the HL-5370 printer and then select accessories. This is where you add the second tray.
Hope this helps.
