Credible Witnesses

Did anyone "attend" the NNA webinar today about credible witnesses? I signed up for it, but missed it because I had a "reader" and a "talker" at my morning appointment Smile

I was interested in their take on witnesses since I have actually had to use credible witnesses three times in the last month.

TIA

THey seemed rushed because so many people signed up and it "slowed up" the connection. Important thing is that the speaker, near the end, pointed out the different requirements for certain states. Should be available on their website around Christmas time.

IMHO just read your handbook - that's the best authority for any notarial law. And your handbook is very clear about CW's - the facts they must "swear" to should provide your guidelines for use of CW's. And I, personally, would not put full reliance on that organization's take on anything.

You needed CW's 3 times in the last month? Either few people in CA bother with ID or your interpretation of the suitability of CW's is flawed - considering the statements the CW's must swear to, especially the part where they swear it's "difficult if not impossible" for the signer to get ID (and we have that same thing here in FL) - unless the person is homebound, or in a nursing home or hospital, then most times signers don't qualify for use of CW's. Neglecting to get current ID, or failing to renew their ID, or "gee I just got married and haven't gotten down there to change my name" does not rise to the level of needing CW's.

Linda, in CA DLs are only good for 4 or 5 years. DMV does not issue them on the spot. Here in AZ, for the most part, they are good until age 65. Also, AZ DMV issues them on the spot. I have far fewer ID issues here than I had in CA. I think that the word "difficult" is open for interpretation.

I have only used it a couple of times in five years,....one, the person was paralyzed, the other, the person was here illegally!
