Docs sent were scanned messy
Recently I received a package with various pages that were cut off. I have never had this happen before. I did not think anything of it, and so I proceeded with the signing. Of course, I got the call that I had to re visit the borrower with new pages that were not cut off. I re printed the docs 3x and each time the docs were cut off. I called the service and requested that they re scan them and re send. On the fourth time of printing these docs, they were perfect. In my opinion, this was nothing more than the signing service fault for scanning the docs messy and then telling me that it was my responsibility to go thru 180 pages before printing to make sure they were ok. What a crock, I have never had to do this and I am not starting this now. Next time, please make sure that you take the time to scan them properly and then check them yourself befoe sendign them, otherwise you get what you give.

Sometimes that happens to me. It just means that I have to adjust the printer settings. It takes a few minutes and it's not a big deal to me. Ypu can't always count on it being at a time when the TC is in to rescan the docs.

Adjusting the printer settings does not help if the documents were not scanned correctly.
I usually review the file on screen before printing, even if the docs are sent at the last minute because I don't want to discover a problem at the table. You can save paper as well as saving a 2nd trip which makes it worth the 5 minutes this takes me.
We should not have to QC the work of the TC, but if it saves me tme and materials I do it.

And IMO it IS your responsibility, as the signing agent, to make sure your printing comes out okay and you arrive at the borrowers' location with viable, signable package - no matter whose fault it is....having a complete package of good docs IS your job.

When I am printing docs, I sit at the computer and check every single doc. Not only to make sure they print out right, but to make sure I have all the necessary docs. I have had to call the SS or TC because of no TIL or RTC. At the signing table is not the place to find out you have messed up docs or missing docs.

Pretty hard to believe that a TC or a SS would receive the legal docs, print them off letter size (with portions cut off) then rescan them in letter with portions missing or with one legal page printed on two letter size pages? Why would they go to all that extra work just to cause problems? Sounds to me like NSA printer problem, or someone (asleep) just printing off all the docs letter, without checking.

I agree with you Les.
In my 9 years of being an NSA, I always solved the problem by playing with the printer settings. Sometimes, the doc looks as if the dimensions of the page are a bit off. I just change the printer settings and the page will print normally.

Sry that yopu feel that way. That beingsaid, no it's not the fault of the notary. I changes settings on my printer and still had cut off docs. It wasn't untill the SS made some type of change and then re scanned that the docs printed in full. I just felt that it was unbelievable that they knew they did this and still told me that next time I needed to check the package , all 180 pages. It would have not mattered because it was always going to be messed up, untill they made their changes. Thanks for your opinion. I like to see what others think

Should they check their docs to make sure that everything scanned properly? Yes, but I agree with the others that it's a good idea to visually scan the docs on the computer to make sure all critical docs are there and nothing is cut off. Recently my best client sent me some legal docs that they scanned as letter - tops cut off on all of them. I knew this would not be acceptable so I contacted them to re-send.
I have also had several instances where lender did not include RTC or TIL in package, or non-borrowing spouse's name left off of those docs. IMHO an ounce of prevention goes a long way toward making things go more smoothly for ME at the table and getting ME paid for a completed job. And it makes me look good to my client that I caught something upfront that would have caused a huge problem for THEM later.
Sometimes cut-off docs can be solved with shrink-to-fit options on the printer, but I try not to do that with the Mortage/DOT since it's a recorded doc.

The various ways discussed above, to make sure the docs are correct, will only work if you actually have the time to do them.
This is one of the reasons that I will only do loan signings when I have received the docs at least 3 hours before the signing. (preferably 4 hours). No exceptions.
Yes, this does cut down on the jobs I get, however, no error signings make the loss of jobs OK, and I always have been paid for my work.

Thanks for your opinion, I like reading what others think. However, I still think it is ridiculous that I am expected to visually go thru 180 pages to make sure that the SS scanned correctly, and then go thru 180 pages again when the package is printed out. Honestly, thats wrong. Clearly, the SS knew that they scanned wron, because after they made correction, the docs were re sent and nothing was ut off. So, I say why all the falseness about the fact that they did everything right and I was in the wrong. Oh well, I still got paid what I asked for and I like working with this SS.
