In keep with BO's Vetting NP....
Yesterday I had a signing with the County Prosecutor. I had expected him to be on a vigilant lookout for any sentence in any doc that could be construed as illegal, etc. What I didn't expect was that he obviously checked me out before I came.
My last name is not easily pronounced...when I call I always give my first and last name and after that just refer to myself using first name only...and I only spoke with the wife when I confirmed the appt. When I walked in, he came from from upstairs and greeted me using my last name....even prounced it correctly. At the table he said to me..."so how do you and your husband like living in ________subdivision?" That startled me - 1) I never said I was married nor do I wear a wedding ring and 2) I certainly never give my address out. So he had to have called and obtained at least my name then looked me up. Just by my address one would never know what sub-division I live in, that would require research unless you knew a neighbor of mine.
I wonder if he did a complete background check on me

Google?
Maybe all he did was Google your name. There is a lot of information out there and we as Notary Publics are..............well you know.............public. It took me a whole 10 seconds to find your name, address, phone number and e-mail. It only took that long because I was drinking my tea at the same time. I always try to check my borrowers out, would never want to meet with a very troubled person, if I knew it ahead of time.

Re: Google?
Still...kinda creepy. We had someone buying a house in our court several years ago. He came by the house before they actually occupied it and my two neighbors and I were out front with the kids. He knew what I did and what one of my neighbors did because he researched US on the internet...it creeped us out.

Re: Google?
If I were moving, I would probably research the people in prospective neighborhood as well - who wants to live next door to a pedophile for example. I have grandkids and great grandkids - I don't want unforeseen problems when they visit. I also don't want to be on "high alert" every moment of my living.
