I have no land line, no fax send capability. I now scan and email. Like that there is no cost - built into the computer service cost, which makes me feel I am getting something for nothing.

I do receive faxes here, but not received any in past year. Like others have said: going the way of the dinosaur.

I use Vonage, which is inexpensive and gives good service. For outgoing items, like Julie I scan. For incoming faxes, I use the NotRot fax.

It appears to me you probably should consider MagicJack for a landline. I don't think I would want to give up that capability altogether.

Magic Jack does not support faxing - I tried it once and gave it up

The last I heard....

land lines are more secure than cell phones.

I use Nextiva for faxes and was able to keep my old landline fax number. It only costs $5.00 a month. I scan the docs on my computer, log into nextiva, attach the file and send. I like it because I don't have to be in my office to fax anything. As long as you have an internet connection, you can fax from anywhere. It works for me.

I use NetTalk (like MajicJack but it plugs into your router intead of your computer). I can fax with it, but sometimes it works great and other times it gives me some trouble. I will scan and email instead of faxing, if possible (I always ask first). If not possible, I will fax using my NetTalk line. I did have to slow my fax transmission speed in order to get the faxing to work on NetTalk.

I use extremefax for my fax services. I paid about $54 for a year service. Its through my emails so I dont need a landline even though I still have one since I dont need utility services calling my cellphone. Plus my directtv service has to use my landline in order to update.

Re: Land Line phones revisited And note to ToniK.

Anyone know where to find the Efax info for premium members? I've poked around the site and can't seem to find it.

Note to ToniK: I had a similar situation with Dish. They (Dish) no longer require a land line connection, you can use your internet connection instead. You should check with Direct, they may offer a similar option, and you could drop your landline if you wished.

I tried, but had to have my fax back.

I tried giving it up, but really needed the fax out capability. Too many times emails are bounced or full or my scan goes to spam or whatever, so I prefer to have the fax capability.

I do get my land line bundled with my home internet, so it isn't very expensive.
