Pearls of Wisdom For The Newbie
Even with over 10,000 signing jobs to my credit I got stuck with a doc problem I've experienced before only a few times. Always check the dates on critical doc's (Note, DOT, TIL) to be sure they're not dated into the future. I was about 75% into a 140 signing job when I noticed the dates on the critical doc's were dated one day ahead. It's a very strange situation when escrow and most of the lender doc's are of current dates, but the critical doc's are dated into the future. Lendes generally will not accept corrections on these doc's. I know some notaries will notarize doc's dated into the future with a current acknowledgement date; I do not. I simply refuse to go forward with the signing job when I discover the date thing. The lender acknowledged their error and paid me an extra fee to correct it. I arranged a second signing appointment for the next day with the borrowers to sign a second set of doc's. Comments?

Strange, I had the same problem yesterday. Finally got docs at 5PM for my 7PM closing and while printing the copy pkg I was arranging the signing set like I always do when I noticed that they were dated for the next day (today). I called hiring SS and they could not get in contact with title, I guess they got the pkg out and headed for the door. So we decided I would contact BO and let them know what happened and reschedule for today. They had no problem with it so all was good. Yesterday, I also was sent the wrong pkg by a SS with same last name. The SS caught it but I had already printed so I got an extra print fee. You can't be to carefully. Always check the details. I can't count the number of times that I have informed TC that the they docs were not drawn with the correct name variation. Merry Christmas to everyone.

You are notarizing signatures
Not documents.

Yes, that's true, but when we're acting as a NSA we
also have responsibility to check docs for correct dates & spelling of borrower's names. What's the point of going ahead with a signing that isn't going to fund due to an error?

That is a state-specific OPINION, not a universal fact.

As I was printing doc's tonight for a closing in the AM...
I noticed that the Mortgage was not in the package. It's being sent first thing in the morning.
I agree with Marilyn. I think it's my responsibility to know what doc's are pretty much a given and to at least make sure they are there.
Did I misunderstand...?

One time I got a package with NO NOTE
Called TC and they had not noticed that lender had not included it package and had them email it to me right away. Another very good reason why we need the docs more than 15 minutes before you have to leave to make the appointed time.

I agree...I got a loan document package via email that only had 11 pages. I KNOW that's not a complete package. I can't ignore it and go the signing anyway. I contacted the SS to get it resolved.

I guess we all have all stories. I did a closing Tuesday that had someone else T&L and 1003 in the package. I got the package an hour before the closing and didn't look at it until I got to the closing table. Talk about a privacy issue.
