Portable Scanners
Has anyone have any experience with the VuPoint Solutions Magic Wand PDSBT-ST43-VP Handheld Scanner Portable? I was in Office Depot this afternoon to pick up a couple of things and it caught my eye. I google it and watch a video. It seemed fairly easy to use and the price was reasonable. The ones that I saw were Blue Tooth compatible and rechargable batteries.
Here is the link in case you haven't seen it. http://www.vupointsolutions.com/browse.php?cat=scanner

I bought one about a year ago. Slightly different p/n ST410DA. It is my backup for BO's that can't or won't follow instructions. i.e. copy of DL. How often does that happen...LOL. It works great and the results are better than most photocopies. Got my neighbor to make a DL holder out of wood to make it more stable.

I have one also and love it. I keep it in my car at all times. I used it the other night when I was at my mom's. I scanned some pictures that she had and some news articles. Its really handy. It takes great DL pics also.

Just another expense.
If you want a gadget, by all means get a gadget, but I don't believe if your bottom line matters, that this gadget will contribute to it.

Carolyn~ I was so glad to see your post! I may have to purchase one as my fax/copy/scanner is not wanting to scan any more. I need it for another business I'm doing. Do you remember the price on the one you eyeballed at Office Depot today? Was it an in-house special? Thanks so much! Karla

It's been a life saver for me when borrower's don't have a copy of their DL. It's easy, inexpensive and worth it!!!

There was a smaller one for 79.99 and a wider one that certainly could be used for documemts for 129.99. This is the one that I am considering.
As far as being an extra expense. My time is money. If I can save some time and be efficient than it will come back to me two fold.

Do a search. I'm pretty sure this item has been discussed before. Some were pretty happy with it and, if I'm thinking of the same device, it was fairly inexpensive, as these things go.

Well, let me ask you this. I have a scan apt on my Iphone too. I recently had a closing at 4:30. Lady was signing for a friend with a POA. She was in town for the day for a convention and had a flight to catch. So, we didn't have a lot of time. The closing was setup in a Homeowners Association's Convention Center. We closed in the lobby at a coffee table. I was requested to fax or email 35 pages of funding documents and get the package to UPS by 6. I had a fifteen minute drive to UPS. There was no way that I could take pictures and get them scanned with my phone that quick. I finally went up to the desk and ask them if they could copy these documents. They ask me what room I wanted it charged to? I ask them if they could just do it as a courtsey. They did it for me. Then after I finally got home, I scanned and sent the documents to the TC.
I am thinking that something like this would be easier. Would you have handled this differently? Maybe I am not efficient with my Iphone.

I have that scanner but I prefer my droid. It takes just seconds to take a picture and email it to TC. With the vu point, you have to position it properly, etc.

Sorry for the confusion. The app would only be good for a few Docs, like DL or if pointing out a problem area on Docs, IMO.
Faxbacks are not a problem for me since I don't do them.

With this TC it was manatory. I think that you willl find that it is becoming the norm these days.
Home Depot has a return policy of 15 days of purchase. I suppose I could try this and return it if I thought it wasn't worth it. If it is, it is also a tax write off.

All I can say is I hope you get additional compensated for the Faxbacks.

I just take a picture of the DL and email it to TC or SS if
I will not be able to print it befoer dropping docs. They have no problem printing it, or if a SS, forwarding to TC. I can't see spending the $$ for somthing I already can do.... I to have an App for that but have not prefected using it...

How much scanning are you doing at closing?
My closers all have phones with camera capabilities.
If for some reason the borrower didn't make a copy of their IDs like they were instructed to prior to the closing and don't have copy capabilities in their home, our closers just take a photo of the IDs and usually email them back to me.
I really couldn't see carrying a portable scanner just for ID's and DL's. But, if you check online, you can find them really cheap - cheaper than normal retail stores - eBay or eBid is a good place to start.

With a scanner..and maybe a smartphone?
Scan faxbacks to file and e-mail from table? Just a thought.
