This cant be happening to me

So I was low on toner and my usual supply wont arrive till early thursday morning (which is it now). I used cartridge world toner in a desperation need yesterday. Well it was a horrible experience. It leaked all over my printer and paper. So now my printer wont even work. I have 6 signings later today and all my printers toner are used up. I went out and bought a brand new toner from Office depot and due to the crappy cartridge world ink, my printer has a permanent red light and I swiped my hand inside the printer and my fingers came out thick black. So tomorrow I have to call cartridge world and get them to fix my printer.

So now Im attempting to print out on my laserjet which is taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R! lol luckily I already printed my 9am. I dont have another signing till 2pm. So either my toner supply arrives before 11 or I'll be heading back out to Office Depot to buy new toner for the other printers.

Thanks alot Cartridge World!
Cant believe this is happening of all days!

I know this is expensive, but when I am in a REAL pinch, I save the docs to a flash drive and take them over to the all night copy place to print. I know I will pay about $20 per set of docs, but at least I will have them and not let anyone down.

Re: Yes its a laser. Brother HL 2040

If I may, the HL 2040 is a light duty printer and probably is not a real good printer to use in this business, especially if you are doing any volume at all, considering it's low rated duty cycle. I have had experience with this printer.

If you have to replace it I would recommend using the orange search button to see what the the members of this board recommend.

I personally have dual HL 5150's, each several years old and each have more than 500,000 pages on them (probably a lot more, but after a certain point, who counts?) and they still run like new. I also do other printing projects and use these in conjunction with a color laser. I do refill my own toner and between each toner change, I take the printer out to the garage and blow it out with compressed air. Sounds like that is what your 2040 needs. A good cleaning.

Many here prefer HP printers. They seem to be the standard. I chose these Brothers because of the ease of refilling the toner.

I am not a newbie. Been doing this since 2006

I have had this printer since 2006 and it has worked fine till I put in the Catridge World toner. Now its acting funny. I dont like HP products. Im an avid Brother user and all my printers are Brothers. This is just one of 4 printers I have. It works exceptionally well and has been my sole printer for my business for the first 3 years. Never had any issues till now.

Dear ToniK,

Toni, I never said you were a newbie. I was just trying to give you a little bit knowledge learned by working with and owning some type of computer and printer for all of the past 40 years and I have owned many. .... I too don't like HP printers, that is why I own Brothers. I was just suggesting you do research to find out what others like and not just rely on my opinion.

"Never had any issues till now."

But now I am going to give you an opinion based on fact. With my and others experience with both the printer and toner in question, if you had a different printer you may not have had any issues at all.

Fact of the matter is that the that particular printer is a light duty printer and tends to overheat when printing large volumes of paper. That is why it only holds 250 pages. My personal HL 2040 melted down when trying to print a 150 page packet way back when. Just trying to pass that on ...

"This is just one of 4 printers I have."

Then why were you struggling with the printer in question? Just use one of those.

Hope things go better for you ....

Re: Dear ToniK,

I have recently printed 300 page document on that printer and it was fine. I have never had it overheat and its been in working condition since 2006.

As I stated in my initial post, I was out of toner on all my other printers. But my huge shipment of toner has arrived early this am and now back in commission.

Just an FYI I was not looking for recommendations on printers. Just voicing my disdain for Cartridge World for the crappy cartridge/toner that leaked all over my printer and therefore rendered it useless at the time.

Re: Dear ToniK,

Well then, Toni you are blessed because the first person I know that has had any luck with that printer for any length of time. I work with a local company that purchased these on sale for 30 cents on the dollar on the Brother website clearance sale and still tossed them after a few months because they are junk.

I wasn't trying to give you a printer recommendation. That tells me you didn't read the post. I was simply trying to tell you that it may have not been the toner cartridge. Your printer may have failed. Brothers typically run at a lower temperature than most other laser printers and uses a lower temperature toner. It just sounds like the temperature control caused the temperature to be too high and melted the toner cartridge. That is how these printers fail. Nothing lasts forever. Things break. But hey, if you want to ignore that possibility, they that's ok with me ... really .....

I gave up on Cartridge World over two years ago.

If memory service me right, CW was charging me about $45 and refilling my old cartridges. Some went bad shortly after a refill or two, and there were on or two leakers over a two-year period. I tried refilling some cartridges, and that was O.K., but still the rollers would go bad after one or two refills. I went online and found NEW cartridges for less than half what I was paying for refills. Have had no problems with them. I believe I did the search by Googling the printer or toner's model name and number, or searching for refills for laser toner cartridges. Good cartridges for my HP2055 cost less than one third of the cost from HP.

Re: I gave up on Cartridge World over two years ago.

I learned my lesson.

I buy from suppliesoutlets.com or supermediastore.com. I have all brother printers. HL 2040, HL 2270, HL 227-DW and a MFC6971DW. You can see I love Brother printers. But their toner is so expensive. So at the abovementioned websites I can buy 4 cartridges for $95. One of them are having a buy 2 get 1 free special right now. I bought some cartridges off Amazon, 9 cartridges for $109.

Finally finished printing off my 4pm signing. Im going to bed its 3am where Im at. lol

Sounds like you will need to buy a new printer - it will take time to resolve the repair issue with Cartridge World and your printer is unusable right now. I have two printers - both the same, which is nice because they both take the same toner cartridge. One of the printers recently broke, and I ordered another one on EBAY of the exact same kind, but with very low page count. That way, I could take the extra paper tray and extra memory from the old printer and put them in the *new* printer. I used the spare printer while my main one was down, and now I am up and running again with two printers.

Having two printers has saved my bacon several times.

In normal practice, I print with both. I send the BO copies to one printer and the lender's copies to the other. Cuts printing time in half.

You should be aware that Glenn also peppers his eggs with his left hand while salting them with his right, and, on the occasions when he is feeling really saucy, has been known to simultaneously wield the Tobasco bottle with his mouth. Family members still speak with fond amusement of the time he picked up the Tobasco bottle from the wrong end, and tilted it upward. Legend has it that the breath from his nostrils left a scorch mark on the table top that remains to this day. Among those recalling that recalling that incident with the greatest fondness is Glenn's wife, who wistfully notes that he couldn't talk for three weeks afterward.

Fortunately for those of us on NotRot, it did not affect Glenn's typing fingers.

I have 2 HP's and 2 Brother Printers...I just don't see what

people like so much about Brother Printers. They're slower, jam all the time and you have to replace the drum AND the toner.

I use all four of mine. Two are dual tray-one HP & one Brother (actually three, but I'm still working on getting the 2nd tray for my other Brother printer) and the other two I use for legal paper only.

I also have a Brother Printer which is my traveling printer. So though I like HP better, I have more Brothers than HP's.

Re: I have 2 HP's and 2 Brother Printers...I just don't see what

I have never had any issues with any Brother printers I have bought. However I have bought countless HP, Lexmark and Dell equipment and I have not had good experience with none of them. I even had HP laptops and always had issues and then went and bought a Toshiba laptop and nothing so far.

But thats just my personal preference. Smile

Re: I use Lexmark T640 Series

I hit the send button, oops. I've been using Lexmark's for years without a problem. I'm in another business supplying turnkey operations for manufacturers and we do specify Lexmarks. Just so you know my total cost per page including paper and toner is under .009 cents. My toner is about $45.00 for a 15K sheet run and the paper is about .005. Drums are long lasting and the printer puts out about 35PPM ++. They are expensive to buy, but less costly to run.

You know, I'd be tempted to just haul the printer, dirty inside and all, right down to Cartridge World and see what they will do for you. Don't they guarantee their cartridges/work? Was this your cartridge they refilled, and how many times? I used to refill my own, ran them 3-5 refills, depending on how "lucky" I felt.
When refill toner went up in price, I decided it wasn't worth it to me to refill toner if I can buy a good compatable for $19 or less shipped. my toner carts have a yield of 8000 pages vs the 350/360 of the smaller units at 2500.

I recycle my cartridges at Staples or OfficeDepot. I just went in an bought a toner cartridge. Dont know if its new or just refilled. But I didnt give them any cartridges to refill. I read their policy and it says if printer experiences issues they will send it to an authorized dealer to get it repaired on their dime. So yes I'll be dropping it off later today.
