And they think we're idiots....

Among the inane lender/title docs I have encountered, this is the inanest (well... there're so many to choose from, but still ...) :

<<I/We the undersigned, hereby acknowledge and certify that I/We personally appeared in front of the below mentioned Notary and provided the following identification:>>

Only problem is, there is no signature line for the "undersigned." Just to make sure, I went to the dictionary to discover:

un·der·signed (ndr-snd)
adj.
1. Having signatures or a signature at the bottom or end. Used of documents.
2. Signed or having signed at the bottom or end of a document: the undersigned names; the undersigned people.

This is from the same company that forbids the notary to call ahead to confirm with borrower, writing ....."it is your responsibility to arrive at the borrower's home without confirming there are there. ... If there are not home, however....."

regarding a version of a statement of identity I recently

saw...Instead of the usual 10 yr. history of residence, employment, marriage, this one wanted 20 years history. To make it even odder, it stated that if the signer did not have a middle name, then they wanted a copy of their birth certificate! What's up with that?

"What's up with that?"... is right! People seem to have enough trouble coming up with info going back 10 years. I sure wouldn't want to have to do that! In fact, I've had a couple of people recently ask me when I was going to collect the DNA sample to send back with the package! Wink

I'm beginning to believe that some lenders are just going through the motions and don't really want to make loans. The requirements and conditions some of them are coming up with seem to be getting even worse, rather than settling back into some kind of normal middle ground.

Maybe they see higher interest rates on the horizon, aren't sure if they'll be able to sell loans at will any more and no longer want to get locked in to lower rates? I dunno. It just slays me sometimes.
