2. Can some of these borrowers meet you part way? Who says you have to run to them all the time? When a SS calls with a two-hour-plus round trip, just say, look, I can't drive that far for the fee you pay especially with the horrendous price of gas; either find somebody closer or with your permission I'll ask the borrowers if they could meet part way. (I've done this several times with borrowers who live in the middle of nowhere. They're used to being accommodating in these situations and the TC/SS knows they will never find a loan signer anywhere near them, so we all compromise. I head out to the boonies, they head toward civilization.

I have done this occasionally and I really don't think the borrowers mind. If I am pressed for time esp at EOM, I will occasionally ask. I do ask them if they have small children etc etc. That can be more of a hassle sitting in a restuarant with small kids. I would rather be in there home where they have their own toys etc. I live outside an air force base and I have asked several if they could just swing by my house after work. They have no problem with it. Is this something we should be pursuing more? We all have got to get our costs down some and this would be a way to help. Should we do this without asking the hiring? I don't really think they should care as long as it gets closed. If they expect us to take lower fees, can't they put more of this on the borrower?
Just last night I had a simple 17pg mod. Borrowers called me and asked me where I was coming from. I was 2 towns from them. They were going out to eat in the town inbetween us so we met there. I didn't ask, they did. Worked great for me and saved me about 12 miles. Anything helps.
