Good article, Linda
Good article from Linda H/FL in AAN newsletter. Definitely will keep it in my files, hoping I never have to go as far as small claims. But good [non-attorney] points made to help prevent ending up in that type of non-paying situation. Well done, Linda! Thanks!

Hmmm. I may have been a little late in the congratulations. Might be the newsletter had been in my stack of mail I'd piled on the breakfast bar and hadn't gotten to yet. :-\

I really enjoy the AAN newsletters
and I did like seeing your name come up, Linda
But this last newsletter had one mistake that bothered me! On the last page I believe, it said something like "embossers are no longer required". Don't mean to offend whoever wrote it, but this is incorrect. Some states still require embossers only. Alabama, D.C., and U.S.V.I. come to mind.

I wrote it.
I'm flattered that you read it close enough to catch that, Robert.
And, you are right - it said: Embossers - Embossers are no longer required for notary work, but they are often preferred by clients who are from other nations. Tip: Use a seal impression inker on the embossed impression or stamp the rubber/ink stamp on the paper beside the embossed seal.
It should have said, "Even where embossers are no longer required..." but the "even where" got past me when the copy came back from my editor...who is charged with making things fit, as well as properly written.
Fortunately, there are reminders throughout the newsletter that the notary's commissioning office is his or her authority.
By the way, I also wrote this back in the summer regarding colors of ink and seal requirements, etc.
Embossed Seal An embossed seal is required in Alabama (except for an acknowledgment; an acknowledgment requires no seal in Alabama). An embossed seal is also required the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Brenda, Brenda, Brenda
Don't forget that Guam also requires the use of an embosser, in addition to the stamp!
