Since you are leaving, you are giving PAW your room. Can I have your name? I have always loved it.

Best of luck to you. I hope the real world is not going to disappoint you for from what I have seen, those same traits mentioned are everywhere. We are but a microcosm of the macrocosm.

That's said, I wonder what the real reason is, I may stop doing loan signings but I will always be a notary until I can't see anymore.

Re: said finished with closings, didn't say finished with

being a notary.

I too stopped doing "loan signings/closings" a few years back for generally the same reasons -- I never put away my notary stamp or embosser. The way things are today in the mortgage/housing market, there definitely are greener pastures out there -- you just have to take the initiative and look for them.

I retired from signings a yr ago.And they still call, wanting to pay peanuts not money. Most that I did in Ga. did pay (what little they paid!) but I will keep up my Notary Seal. I aquaired a 3 yr old so it gave me a good excuse.

Good luck to you, FLdocrunner! I am looking for some greener pastures myself.... when I find them I may be heading on out, too.

Good luck. Although we are not flush with signing agents in this rural state, I'll also probably hang up my hat NLT next spring, when my notary commission is up for renewal. Not enough general notary work in this area to warrant renewing my commission, unless I wanted to do weddings. And since 75% of the weddings I officiated at years ago have ended up in divorce, that's certainly no incentive. Of course, I reserve the right to "never say never".

I noticed you blew out your profile already.

Hopefully, you'll keep your commission. I plan on keeping mine until I can no longer get around until I can't justify the cost of maintaining a commission any longer. There is plenty of other work out there that requires a notary.

But, I too, don't close very many loans any longer, unless it's a good client that calls. The lo-ballers and low rated companies I just have their numbers set to roll to voice mail.

Best wishes.

Refinancing to a lower interest rate is over! Housing will stagnate for many years to come and only the few investors that have the talent to make profits will continue.

"Refinancing to a lower interest rate is over!"

I am afraid you might be right. When I started in this business 6 years ago, interest rates were higher, but lenders kept business going with piggyback loans.

I love being a NSA and will hate to have to find something else to do.

Re: "Refinancing to a lower interest rate is over!"

Once the fed is near the end of QE2 in a few months the market will push rates higher. We all know its coming and we all know higher rates will kill refinancing. Less work and lower closing fees is killing the closing & title industry and only a few will be left standing. I myself closed zero loans last week and only 2 the week before, and thats the beginning of the trend this year.

This country is headed to economic expansion or its headed to economic inflation. Either way interest rates are headed higher.

I am getting business from a guy in Charlotte who left a law firm to start his own title co. His timing couldn't be worse.

I'm flattered, but ...

I too have 'retired' from doing loan signings. There's not much work anyway in this area, coupled with paltry fees and too much stress. I haven't quit the notary business and still doing the apostille and document legalization processing. Those provide me with enough work and it is worthwhile.

Good luck, Cheryl, in your greener pastures. It's been a pleasure having you as a colleague.

Re: I'm flattered, but ...

Amen to the "stress" statement. Funny PAW I did notice you always provide excellent guidance and the correct procedure when you post about various forum discussions but rarely mentioning " What I did last night.......". Must be because as you said, you're kinda retired from that stress. Boy am I working extra hard to get to where Cheryl, you and everyone else is.......off the loan signing bandwagon. Envious to say the least!

Been "done" for awhile here, too

But I've kept my notary commisssion.
Short sales and foreclosures in this area are being handled by local TC's and RE offices.
I still do the occasional closing and wedding, but it's not enough to cover the bills.
I seem to do more general notary work than anything else.
Best wishes to you Cheryl!

Still hangin' in there. Not like it was, of course, but

still about a dozen or more per week and more at EOM.
Can't make any money in Illinois with general notary work at $1 per. Usually refer them to local UPS store or a currency exchange.

Volume! Volume! Volume! LOL

As most on here know, I don't do and have never "done" loan signings (even though yes, I am a Certified Loan Signing Agent but I choose not to do signings).

I think there is something very respectable about committing yourself to general notary work. This really allows you to help people and embrace your position as a public servant. I very much like being a "brick and mortar" notary, that sits at a desk all day, and notarizes for whatever people need the service. Yes, the law allows us to charge a fee for this service ($10 per certificate in Florida), but what we are doing is very valuable. Even $10 is a small price to pay for the expertise of a knowledgeable notary public. And I think most on this board fall into the "knowledgeable" category.
