It's not just the gas going up
$31.95 to park at Hard Rock Hotel tonight for <45 mins. Of course, if I had spent the night it would have been the same, but I don't sleep with my borrowers.
One cannot afford to work for peanuts - or to absorb all expenses. Was talking with another notary tonight in Orlando to let her know prices up at Universal area. During that discussion she mentioned that someone had called her but did not want to pay for the parking fee, so she gave the job back, then said they probably found someone totally unaware of the costs associated with these tourist spot signings.

Did you know that going in? I'd probably ask the borrowers to meet me outside and sign on the trunk of my car...LOL

Oh, yeah, I had called the hotel to ask about the cost of parking. $20 for self park, $25 for valet. got there and it was last years prices the front desk quoted; now $25 and $30, plus tax. The governor gets his too. I chose valet as the self park lot is down a hill and in back of the hotel. I am alone in the dark, and don't trudge up hills in heels with a briefcase. The cost of self park was approved and tacked on to my fee.
There is no place to meet outside - this is all designed to get the tourists in and keep them coming into the lots. It's turnover, turnover and more turnover. Police are everywhere so one cannot even think of pulling stunts like that.
I thought about employee parking, but it was really in the boonies, plus they get to show id's to park and walk through some sand. I have used employee parking at some places, esp. around the convention center (Peabody across from the original main building) and around the airport.
Miss Teresa keeps me well informed about those tourist areas and then I call. Glad I did as the last time i was there was quite some time ago. I looked up old signing and it was $12 about 4 years ago.

I had to do a closing at University Medical Center in Knoxville tonight and parking was $2.00. Sometimes living in a small city has it's benefits.

Wow...
That's worse than parking in Manhattan. At least there they charge by the hour... last time I checked, that would get you at least 90 minutes...
I hope you were able to get the hiring party to cover the cost.

CONFESSION. On two occasions I've slept over (not with) my borrowers. Once I traveled 100 miles away through mountains and it began to snow at 11pm. They invited me to stay, I got up at 4am to head back to Santa Barbara (rate lock expiration issue). Second time was in Carpinteria, met up with old friend, we had a couple glasses of wine to celebrate low interest rate for 15 years, and they said, you're not driving home, you get the fifth wheel. It was luxurious, on the ocean, in the middle of an avocado grove. Luxury, luxury, luxury with my own guest toothbrush. Wonderful clients who didn't want to see their valued notary crash and burn too late at night to be on the road situation. I am so grateful for my clients.
YIKES. Parking $32! Outrageous.
