Magic Jack

I installed a Magic Jack phone at my house last week. So far, I am more than pleased with it.

I should note, however, that I am not attempting to use it to fax.

I don't know why anyone would use anything but Magic Jack *if* they were going the *VOIP* route.

Re: Magic Jack, is it FAX capable?

I am contemplating MJ service, but the only reason is for FAX. Do you know if it is capable of sending and receiving FAX? TIA

There are problems. I did a thorough research before purchasing. It does work for some folks but t would not work with my HP. Other folks have no issues. Hit and miss.

Re: Love love love my Magic Jack

No BEEJ I have never been able to fax with my Magic Jack. I have had a Magic Jack now for the past 4 years. For my home phone it rocks with them emailing your voice mails. It pops to my BB phone. At $40 bucks to instal and then $20 bucks a full year after that. Smply rocks in my world. I love it when I loose my phone and don't want to love for 20 minutes to find it...... Magic Jack is there for me. When I don't want to use up my minutes...Magic Jack is there. When I am on the phone and what to make another call....Magic Jack is there for me. However one thing it doesn't so I wish it could do is find my keys. Then I would be 200% happy with my Magic Jack. Have a great day guys. Any question you can pm me. I have to run but I will be back this afternoon.

I got it when it first came out, and never used it. I'm moving to a new location, and have no idea how my wireless Clear is going to work. I may just re-consider and start using it. Is it the same price, like $19.95 for ever, or something like that??

$39.95 to purchase the appliance, and

that includes $19.95 for the first year.

$19.95 per year thereafter.

I had Magic Jack. Tried it for a couple of months needed it for faxing as I use my cell.I had an hp fax and Comcast. It didn't work well. Would connect but, after a few pages going through it would disconnect.

I had Magic Jack. Couldn't get it to fax for more than a couple of pages, but used it for long distance calls in the home. It came in handy. I tried to renew it for 5 years for $59.95 and received the code to renew it by e mail. The code didn't work and that is when I discovered that there is absolutely no address or phone number to call with problems. After trying for several days, I finally threw it out. Lost my $59.95, but had no way to get it back.
I now have OOMA. It was $99.00 for the hardware. (got it on Amazon) Easy set up, and I use it for Faxing as well as for outgoing calls. No charge after the cost of buying the equipment. MSRP is $250.00, however, there are sales all the time at Frys. Be sure to read the book that comes with it for hints on faxing. I've had it about a year.

OMG...I appreciate how you have just let it go rather than keep dealing with it...but there's no way I'd pay the $59.95. I would do a charge back on them.

I have had MJ for two plus years now. The trick for faxing is two fold. One, you must have a good high speed connection that is clean! Two, you must be able to set up your fax to accept international calls. The issue is in how our normal phones work and how voip works. Normal phones have a Direct connection where as VOIP is internet based and comes in packets when there is too much traffic or noise on the internet line, quality of Service kicks in and tries to resent the packet, thats when MJ hangs up!. It is great if you want to send one or two pages but not very reliable for more than that. For a phone I agree with most everyone it is terrific. Only issue there is as with many voip phones some people call not call you and you cannot call some people. Depending on the service sometimes I am unable to use it for gotomeetings and other conference calls, I just use Skype or google phone for those.(both free)

You're a great contributor; thanks for the insight shared today.

Regarding conference calls...I was interested to see that you can set up conference calls free with Magic Jack.
