NNA & BGC Opinions/Advise
I was getting ready to complete my BGC with the NNA and as I was clicking through all the terms and agreements I was stopped by the following:
I am aware of, and agree to, the following:
My background screening result shall be displayed on SigningAgent.com Web site for ALL USERS of that Web site, including financial institutions, lending industry, title insurance companies, their affiliates and/or sub-contractors (herein collectively referred to as "Institutions");
NNA and/or BGO MAY RELEASE my background screening DETAILED REPORT and its scorecard to ANY of the Institutions at their written request, or as required by law. I hereby authorize such release. (Type in your name here) * 2/1/2011 4:27:56 PM Signature Date
This is word for word from the BGC website I was directed to. I did capitalize some words for emphasis on what concerns me.
I looked at my last BGC from NNA and it has everything from my driver’s license number, SSN, etc. The last time there was not any credit reporting info but now it looks like they are going to check and report on that to.
Maybe I'm not looking at this right so I would like to know what others think about such sensitive personal information being accessible for anyone with a membership or anyone who sends in a written request.
Thanks for any input.

First of all, I'm sure you know that you don't have to renew your BCG through them. You can go directly to Lexis-Nexis (who they use) for a free update. Also, BCG's are available through this site. As far as I know, all bgc's do use the credit reporting agencies to check for previous addresses, etc. I wouldn't sign that release for XYZ, though. It's always strange to me to realize that the info is about me, but is technically owned by the credit reporting agencies. Also, a lot of our info is public information anyway.

Yes Marilyn I was aware that I could get a BGC on my own for free but was a little confused as to what to order and needed to get a new one as mine was 2 years old.
After I called the NNA and gave them my credit card number they called me back because they needed the 3 numbers on the back. By the time they called me back I figured it out and orderded directly through LexisNexis and was pleased that I did not have to go through NNA.
I never gave them those numbers but when I did my bookwork I noticed the money was indeed taken out and the NNA sent me a link to get going. Although not please I decided to go ahead and do it through them also.
That was before I read the terms and conditions they wanted me to agree to. Now I will definately call the NNA and ask or my money back.
Although I know we as Notaries have a lot of information about ourselves it doesn't mean we should allow anyone that is a member of the NNA SigningAgent.com to have every piece of information that shows up on the BGC. Also, anyone who request in writting for it.
In the past I had the control as to who got the BGC and there were several things I blacked out before sending it.
Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion. I do appreciate it.

Keep us updating on getting a refund from them. I have
serious doubts that they will give you your money back, knowing that organization.

I was thinking the same as you
That is why after I found out they ran my card anyway I would just go ahead. I was anticipating more of a fight than it was worth. I will keep you updated.
