Not getting paid solutions
I read not rot all the time, and the one thing that I regularly see is that these SS's just don't want to pay for the services we provide. It really bothers me that they continue to get away with this behavior. I cann't believe that these people try, and are getting away with this. First, they want to pay peanuts, and then they don't even want to pay the peanuts. So, how do we stop this from happening? Is it possible to require payment upfront? Why cann't we, as a profession start making it mandatory to require payment upfront? I think that if we, as a whole start requiring to be paid upfront, it solves alot of problems we are having right now.

You stop this from happening by not accepting any work from any ss or tc that does not have a 4 star or more rating. Yes, I know, times are tough. They are even tougher if you spend your hard earned dollars to provide a quality signing for one of the lesser rated ss/tc's and never collect your due monies. This does not even count the expenditures you have trying to collect. I do not work with any company less than 4 stars. I have never been "shafted" in the 4 years I have been doing signings. And yes, there have been dry spells. I cope. If the notaries followed these guidelines most of the stinking looser ss/tc would be history. JMHO.

I've only done seven signings this week all above avg.....all five star. Key word, is o n l y but I know I will be paid because the are regular clients. As John mention, stop taking those with low ratings and build your clientele instead of digging your grave. Work smarter and less. IMO

thanks for the advice, but personally I have pretty good success with my clients. I read about other notaries on here with these horrible problems about not getting paid for months, and not getting phone calls and e mails returned, and I thought how could this behavior be stopped. I really think that notaries as a group need to set precedence, and start requiring a new system in which notaries get paid differently. Why cann't notaries ask to be paid up front each and every time?

Some do, and get paid up front. It depends on the company you're dealing with. I might add, GOOD clients don't. They have good payment histories. You business model sounds good, have you tried asking for payment up front yet? Just curious

To be paid ‘in front’ someone must ‘find’ the money to pay you. Normally the borrower pays the fees at closing. If you are a Title Company doing any kind of volume, say 50 closings a day, and you pay ( charge the borrower) $125 per, that’s $6250, for say four days it’s an extra $25000.00 that you’ve got out there. Figure the interest on that over a years time. Much easier to ask 50 notaries to front the $125 each.
