Notary Pro New Income Stream?

Has anyone been contacted by Notary Pro's new division "NP ServicePro"? I have been asked to become "certified" as a Field Agent for them but the actual employer is Columbia Law Center. No notarizations required. They say its a Debt Resolution Bankruptcy Program. I'm abit trepidacious on this one....any input????

Just went on a search regarding Notary Pro and didn't fnd very favorable comments as far as payment history. Still would like to hear from anyone regarding this new "venture" of theirs...

several SS pushing this venture, search debt management

They want you to sell their program. You are not acting as a notary, you become an agent for the debt management company to sell the product. I am not going to sign any document making me an agent for a company of which I know nothing about. If they get sued and go to court I get to go with them. Not going to happen.

Also, some of these companies only pay you upon each "successful" sale. I'm not interested in debt resolution closings anyway, but especially not if I have to successfully sell their program.

Not only would I stay away from this, I would definitely stay away from NotaryPro. Clearly they are on the ropes.

It seems that the debt settlement people hit on the idea of using notaries to add legitimacy to their "business," not to mention that we are so easily accessible for contact (and are used to saying yes.) It took a while for the worst of the SSs to catch on to what was happening: Heck, we can't have anybody contacting notaries directly, they thought, let's get in on the act. So the worst of the worst (read NotaryPro) jumped on that train. If any notary can figure out how to make this work for them without jeopardizing their reputation/commission, then go for it. But the whole thing is sleazy - and in many cases illegal (as in the collection of post-dated checks, I believe).

I occasionally get these calls, and just for kicks I told the last guy if you don't me to notarize anything, I'm not interested. To which he replied, oh, yes, we have a POA in the docs. YIKES! So now they're signing for these poor people! I am so staying away from it all.

They're not the only ones...

I got a call last week from a company that I've worked for in the past letting me know they needed a Spanish speaker to go to a city just a bit beyond where I usually go on a Friday evening (traffic nightmare). This is a company that reduced their fees in the past, so I asked if they would be able to do anything with their fee. I was shocked when she replied that they usually paid $50 for these, so I asked if it was a modification. She said no, it was a debt settlement! I told her I wasn't interested in getting involved with those types of assignments. But $50??? Really???

Re: They're not the only ones...

I have an idea? Instead of them paying you, you should offer to pay them. After all, you get to compromise your notary commission, have your integrity questioned and possibly get sued. Plus, you get to print stuff and even see the sights in your city. Wow! I can't believe I will get paid to do all that... That's the problem, though. You won't get paid. But, the signing service will. Good luck!
