Hey Cheryl,

I just purchased an Hp LaserJet P1102w which tethers to my DROID II. It weighs approx. 11 pds. and I plan to hook it into a 1,000 watt pure sine inverter which is already in my car. Many others on the board already have the set-up in place so I'm sure they'll chime in.

I just purchased a Brother 2170W at Staples for $69.95. I use it in my car with my laptop and my 1,000 watt pure sine inverter.

I got mine from Home Depot. Mounted in trunk and works great. Mine is a "pure" sine inverter.

How big is this thing? What does it do? Is a 1,000 watt necessary for a small laser printer?

Is a 1,000 watt necessary

Wattage depends on the wattage for the printer you will be using.
Check the specs and check the highest wattage (don't recall what it's called, but laser printers use a higher wattage when powering up) to choose your pure sine inverter.
RE: 1000 watts: keep in mind that you may decide to upgrade to a higher wattage printer some day.
My 1000 watt inverter is about 24" x 18" (appx).

Re: where does one purchase a 1,000 watt sine inverter, and

I've been contemplating the purchase of a portable printer, but are they relevant? Do you have so many corrections at the table that a portable printer makes sense? Does a portable printer make that much more completive? Is it the next step in providing service to appease hiring clients. Perhaps it’s just another toy?

I'm not trying to be belligerent or confrontational, just inquisitive.

Re: where does one purchase a 1,000 watt sine inverter, and

If your business volume is such that you spend your day running back and forth to signings, office to print, to signings, office to print, and find yourself turning down work because you you're out and won't have time to get back to office to print - then a portable printer/mobile office will probably pay for itself tenfold.

If the above is true, then not another toy but a value-added service...

I personally don't have the volume to support it.

I got a portable 3 yrs ago & have used it approx 4 times on

the road. It's good for a back up PLAN, but still hasn't pd for itself!
