Streaming video VA House

For those interested, they just started. I think there is going to be another vote on hb2318 today, it looks like there are 12 bills ahead of it on the schedule so this could take a long time. I'll try to repost when it gets close.

I'm wondering where the sponsor of the bill even got this brilliant idea? UGH!

I hope this is not the end of it...I hope there's

another opportunity for opponents to voice their concerns - the presentation and arguments I saw in the VA House yesterday and today were so lame...unbelievable...it was like ordering lunch...that was the extent of the emotion!!

Re: I hope this is not the end of it...I hope there's

I asked Rep Bryon what her motive was for introducing this. No reply. I read somewhere it had something to do with lobbyists.

This is not the end. Today was the third reading. Finally found this:

If you go to Rep Bryon's webpage she has a link to her FB page.

There is what looks like an identical Bill in the Senate ...

already. See S.B. 827 ...

You might be closer to this being passed than you think? I'm just figuring out the Legislative process myself, so I really don't know.

Re: There is what looks like an identical Bill in the Senate ...

Yup - I sent emails to my senator and to my delegate, and also to the senator and the delegate who sponsored their respective bills. I am not shocked that it is progressing - these people are clueless about notarial issues. I'm really curious as to what organization/lobby is behind this brilliant idea...

Unbelievable is right! OMG! I can't imagine what's going on

& who is responsible for lobbying this into law. I sent off emails to the delegates, etc.
VA is known to be so conservative. I don't know what they're thinking on this one!!!

I bet you anything that the lobbyists on this were

the same pompous, jerk businessmen who have been trying to circumvent notary laws for years. Most of them just do it by having their secretary commissioned as a notary who will do whatever he says. Now they can get around the "personal appearance" issue legally in Virginia. What's next... telephonic notarizations?

I'm sure that there is a lobbyist with a FAT contract behind

the new notarial law for VA. One thing is for sure, video conferencing equipment sales will be on the rise!

Anyone want to take bets on whether NotaryNow will move their base of operations from NJ to VA?

Their Base of operations is Newport Beach Ca. NOT NJ

Read their policies - they may be physically located in CA, but everything they're doing is allegedly covered under NJ law.

Once again, things are getting very distorted. This is only

for e-notarization in VA. I haven't read anything that would make it national notarization.

you will have to look at the bill as it is being proposed...

ยง 47.1-13. Jurisdiction; Virginia notarial powers outside the Commonwealth.

A. The powers of any notary commissioned pursuant to this title may be exercised anywhere within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

B. Any notary commissioned pursuant to this title may likewise perform notarial acts outside the Commonwealth, where such notarial acts are performed in

Re: you will have to look at the bill as it is being proposed...

We already can perform notarizations anywhere in the world, as long as the document is for VA.
I don't know that any state can create a provision for national notarizations.
