I seriously would pass on these types of gigs, only because
of a horrible incident I experienced with a loud banging on my door one day many many years ago...
and I'd hate to be viewed by the debtor as, 'big bad early morning door banging debt collector'......just thinking about it makes me cringe...
STORY TIME:
Many many years ago, I purchased furniture from a popular rent a center place (walked in with a friend who was looking) Anyway I ended up getting a great deal on some slightly used floor sample furniture...couldn't resist. About two months later, I sent a payment in late, by a few days...was just learning how to do on-line banking...but not a big deal I thought.
Shortely after sending the check, one early Saturday morning, we were woken up to a loud banging on our front door, and guess who it was...YES, the furniture store folks! When my husband opened the door, there were two huge guys on the other side who started yelling at my husband, demanding payment or they would take the furniture....at that time!
Before my husband got a chance to pound this guy into our neighbors door...I stepped in and showed him the payment made, and by that time, the check cleared (luckily I had printed this info the night before they came).
The frickin' jerk didn't even apologize but sarcastically said 'well good, and next time pay the bill on time so we don't have to come back..." ...and of course, that's when I FLIPPED OUT on the dude.....with husband pulling me away from the door...ahhhhh, those were the days....anyway, point being,
...whenever I get calls for this type of work, I cringe at the thought of being looked at like the big bad bill collector coming to collect...even though I obviously would have more tact and wouldn't be banging on anyone's door demanding payment...but the thought of being portrayed as a 'bill collector'...nope, not for me...I'd go broke out of this biz before I start doing these gigs...
....well I'm finishing up my 2nd cup of joe...
