Title companys
I'm flabergasted. I just had a call to do a signing for a Title company. They offered just $100.00. I said my fee is $125. They turned me down. I remember when Title companys paid over $200 for a signing. Today, Title companys are as bad or worse than SS. The notary who accepts the lowball fee is not very bright because they will not make very much profit with the price of gas and supplies. The lowball companys are the worst also, when it comes to payment time. Who needs it? I don't. I would rather sit by my fireplace than accept a lowball fee.

How about Notaries that are jobing assignments out or ss will try to mislead you. I would have asked questions, where are you located, are you a office/licensee of this Title co etc?

Sid may be right on this one. I've never had a TC offer so little. I'd probably call the TC directly and confirm and/or offer my services if they haven't placed the signing yet (at my fee of course).

I would have listened to the entire job offering first..It could have been a cash sale or just a quit-claim deed. I learned this the hard way by not knowing the different type of products out there. TC pay more than SS so a $100.00 TC offering might equal a $20 SS offer. I would have gotten as much info as I needed to make my decision. My .02

I never worked for them
They would never agree to anything over $65 with me. But, nevertheless, they've called and called, offering only that lame amount. They never attempted to get my fee approved, either.

Re: EagleEye-there is such a thing as working AND being
hungry -- paper, toner, wear-and-tear on equipment and vehicle, gasoline PLUS taxes because the money ain't free!
You better have a serious look at your costs and lack of profit.

If I do 100 closings at an average profit of $60 ea
I just made $6000.00 for a month after taxes and costs. I always wonder what kind of paying jobs everyone here had before they went independent?
Since when is that chump change?

I'd like to know what kind of fees you charge that you realize a $60 profit *after* taxes (federal, state, SE) and costs...
And a volume of 100 closings/month? - makes you a company, not a signing agent - whole different ball of wax.

Hubby is an Independant Closer
so he can do anywhere from 50-100 closings in a month, personally, through our company.
He makes more now than he did working for a title agency as a licensed title producer/title officer and has the freedom of working for himself and having flexible hours.
And, his average TOTAL expense per closing is less than $40.00 (print, gas, income taxes, etc) - so even on a $100.00 closing he is making $60 profit and more on any closings he does at a higher fee.

Re: 100 closings a month? -- Not in the year 2011 !!
not to mention $6,000 profit a month is also an unrealistic figure for a signing agent in 2011 -- 10 years ago, yes, but not today.
As Linda said, a signing agent today IS NOT making that kind of money -- read the board -- if either 100 signings a month or $6,000 profit a month was possible today, there wouldn't be so many of us (that have done this for years) getting out of the biz.
There's a saying, which I will clean up -- wish in one hand and poop in the other.
