Turned back first assignment today
Got called this afternoon to do a 5:30 closing relativly close to home. Would be able to drop daughter 1 at Karate and have daughter 2 stay with a friend and both girls go home with that friend after class. Told company that I needed docs by 4:30 in order to make it to class and to the signing on time. Called company at 3:30 to find out where docs were, told he would check and get back to me. Called again at 4:30, still nothing. Called me back at 4:40 to say that docs were being scanned at title and the would be another 20 minutes. I stated that I could not wait that long since daughter would be late for class and I would then be late for signing. He asked "so are you turning this back?", I said, yes, I need to as docs are not ready yet. Not sure if I will get called again, but I did give plenty of notice to them of when my deadline was. Oh, yeah, was not able to confirm with BO as the VM for the only phone number given was full. It just bugs me so much when docs are not ready and we are expected to drop everything to wait.

Besides the really really late docs, this would have been a dead deal for me anyway - until I speak with the borrowers and confirm it's a go, the appointment is not set in my schedule.
Probably a good thing for you - sounds like it was a nightmare brewing...

One time doc were running late. I called and asked for them was told were waiting on lender. I said call me when you are sending them because I have to go out. I never got the call when I arrived home there they were.

It amazes me how many signing agents volunteer their personal business to their clients. It sounds so unprofessional and is really none of their business anyway. I would simply say I had another appointment, which with travel time would make me unavailable from X time to Y time, and then offer to complete the signing after my next "appointment" - assuming that docs were ready then.
Magic words: I'm unavailable or have another appointment. No need to elaborate.

I agree with Sharon. If docs are running late and I have other obligations (personal or business) I always tell them I have another appointment and can get it signed at .... IF the docs are ready. If they want to take the assignment back it's up to them. Their inability to meet their schedule, they need to be flexible.
