Update on message 371058
Regarding the e-mail I sent to the D.O.D about Notary Now's notarizations for military members. (I believe Robert/FL also sent them an e-mail) I got a canned response that day (February 2nd) I just received this in my e-mail.
Dear Ms. Mease:
Thank you for your correspondence to the Department of Defense (DoD) Hotline.
In order for the DoD Hotline to initiate an inquiry of any complaint that we receive, it must be determined that:
* the matter concerns a violation of Federal law within the DoD's investigative purview; * the DoD has sufficient facts to initiate an inquiry; * the DoD Hotline is the most appropriate agency to take action on the complaint.
Based on a thorough review of the information provided, there does not appear to be a sufficient basis for the DoD Hotline to initiate an inquiry. We recommend that you refer your concerns to your respective state government, Business and Licensing Office.
We appreciate your bringing this matter to our attention.
Sincerely,
Department of Defense Hotline

Sounds like they didn't know what to investigate?

It sounds to me like what they're saying is that the DoD really doesn't have any jurisdiction in the matter because notary laws are a state issue, not Federal. IN other words, there are no Federal laws being broken, so they can't do anything about it.

I think you're probably correct Marian. But you think as it is affecting the miltary members they would be able to do something about it.

I think Marian has it right - there is no federal law to govern this, so there is nothing they can do about it. Complaints have to be at the local level, the Feds are not going to get involved.
For better or worse, this is what our system of government is all about...
