Why does UPS not have label holder on their envelopes?

Forces me to use FedEx supplies on UPS stuff to keep them in business.

The UPS envelopes I've been getting lately have a

transparent pocket attached to the back of the envelope - opening near top - slip airbill in and it seals when package seals...

Unfortunetely, at least here, you have to ask them for a label pouch.

I have both, with and without pouches. I also have a supply of pouches (peel of backing) for the envelopes that don't have pouches. Ordered online.

I have been able to order UPS supplies without an account by speaking to a customer service rep. You cannot order them online without an account.

Ditto, PAW. "Pouches" part of the envelope, at least

when ordered online, for a long time now.

Saturday, while making a drop at a UPS Store, I read a note on the door saying they were no longer allowed to provide waybills in an effort to reduce use of fraudulent account numbers and use of write-in waybills could add $5.00 to the shipping cost. From what I've seen on NotRot that could double the shipping fees TC's pay. Seems this would encourage companies to provide preprinted labels or switch to Fed Ex.

UPS has 2 kinds of legal size cardboard envelopes

The red, black and white envelopes have the label holder and the green, black and white ones do not.

As Lynn said, there are 2. They are both for air.

I order online. They only let me order 50 at a time. I order 50 of the red envelopes with the window, 50 of the green envelopes without the window, and then I also order the UPS peel and stick labels. I like the labels better than using the pouches.

I use an envelope with a pouch when the TC sends a preprinted label.

Re: I've never seen the green, black and white

Red envelopes have the pouch incorporated into the envelope. Green is "reusable" and does not have the pouch attached. I prefer to use the green envelopes because I find that they are slightly sturdier than the red, although we know how all UPS envelopes are horribly flimsy. I order the plastic pouches and attach them to the green envelopes.

It has gotten to be such a pain to order UPS supplies! They closed my UPS account due to inactivity (except for the occasional supply order). So I ordered by faxing the order sheet in and put my name, address, and phone number on there along with a note that says I am a third party shipper and do not have an account. However, the last time I did that the fax would not go through on their end (repeatedly), so I called and ordered the supplies. Well, they never showed up!

So, just yesterday I opened a new UPS account and ordered supplies, however when I check the status of my supply order, there is none found! So now that I'm down to my last 20 UPS legal size envelopes, I'm wondering if I will have a replenishment by the time I run out! Is UPS in the shipping prevention department? I just cannot believe that they make it so difficult to get supplies so we can ship using their services, presumably so they can generate income!

Re: UPS has 2 kinds of legal size cardboard envelopes

Yes, my UPS Legal envelopes have a built in pouch. FedEx Legals do NOT. I affix the pouch on FedEx sometimes, and sometimes I don't. The labels have a selfstick back so you supposedly don't need them for either UPS or FedEx. Still something about having the label enclosed in a pouch that makes me feel better.

I refuse to waste good supplies on UPS

Because UPS doesn't seem to be as particular about how their airbills--oops, officially UPS has WAYBILLS, FedX has airbills--are attached, if I don't have a pouch I ask for the packing tape when I go into the store. A couple of quick swipes and package is good to go. And since most of the UPS stores no longer have or offer waybills for free, but do have packing tape out the wazoo, works for me.

Re: I refuse to waste good supplies on UPS

I don't get UPS requests too often, thankfully, so I've gotten by with picking up supplies from a main hub when I'm in the area. The ones I have don't have any pouches on them. Since I nearly always get pre-printed labels when I have to ship with UPS, I just stick them to the envelope with four long strips of cheap scotch tape. It get's the job done and I've never heard any comments from anyone at the UPS store where I drop them off.

Re: I refuse to waste good supplies on UPS

I started asking for a Fed Ex account instead of UPS for all my signings. I seriously can't stand UPS. They open later in the morning and close at 5. Fed Ex Kinko's is open 24 hours and can drop off the loan package at any time. Fed Ex latest pick up is at 6 for California and 5 for out of state. They are easy to work with and very helpful people.

"oops, officially UPS has WAYBILLS, FedX has airbills"

They're the same thing - a receipt that a package has been picked up and is now in the carrier's possession. Some UPS stuff is shipped air, some FedEx stuff is shipped ground. What's your point?

waybill vs airbill - what's your point?

Mike, I'm not talking about a paper tape-type receipt you may get after you leave a package with the person at the counter. I'm talking about the "paper" that is attached to the package that the company uses to deliver it to the destination. Quite frankly I could care less about company semantics of airbill vs waybill as long as my package gets delivered on time. However my Sales Manager son at UPS is very quick to point out UPS has waybills not airbills. Since they are all airbills to me my Senior Manager husband at FedX isn't as quick to correct me. So sorry, son's habit of correcting me has worn off to where I correctly call what UPS uses as a waybill, not an airbill.

But I will caution and debate with you your statement "some FedEx stuff is shipped ground"--at least as it relates to loan packages. Most loan packages I have worked with are shipped using FedX Express Division either Priority (delivery by 10:30 am) or in the rare instance standard (delivery is by 3 pm). Shipping via FedX Ground Division means the package is not scheduled to be delivered for 7-10 days. Now that is something FedX husband IS quick to point out: there is a difference between the various FedX divisions and how they deliver.

Because, they are cheap.

The local Hub station of UPS doesn't keep the pouches at all any longer nor do they keep legal envelops for overnight shipping in stock.

Their regular sized envelopes have the plastic backing. I can't remember if their legal sized do around here. I always have to use a FedEx holder for the UPS legal packages.

I've never had an issue with getting supplies from any FedEx location. I wish all the companies would start using FedEx.

Fedex Ground packages are delivered in 1-6 days depending on the distance involved just as Ups Ground. Happy Valentine's Day.
