Advice for a Newbie!
Hello all, I am a Notary and have been in the mortgage business for 10 years and know all about closings, docs, etc. I wish to be a freelance mobile closer.
PROBLEM: No one wants to hire someone who has never affixed their stamp or 'closed' anyone (equates to inexperience).
QUESTION: How does a newbie get started....go about getting hired on as a Mobile Notary with a company??? Seems near impossible to get responses from companies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

With 10 years experience in the mortgage business
I don't see where they'd question your ability and expertise. And believe me, companies hire new notaries all the time.
My biggest question is why are you doing this now? You obviously know how the market is - what in the world made you decide to try to break into this business now when many are leaving because this just doesn't pay the bills any more.

I'm sure you have acquired many mortgage business associates. Do they know what you're doing now? Make a list and start taking them to lunch. Good luck

My advice to you......if you really want to do this......don't give up. The mortgage industry is in rough shape right now, but so many of us have been in it for so long, and love it so much, we could never go out and do anything else......so we do whatever we can to stay in our industry and pray that it will eventually turn around.
Go into Signing Central and go through the list of companies and start calling each and every one of them. Let them know you have been in the mortgage industry for ten years and you are very familiar with how loan closings work and the actual documents themselves. All it takes is one company to give you a closing and one company turns into two and so on.
I wish you the very best of luck!

Re: PegiT_MN
Thanks for your gracious response. Everything you said is so in line with my feelings about the business. It is the only business I have known and loved. I don't want to leave it altogether and I can do some closings here and there I will be content. I just need one to let me in the door.
I will take your advice and wish of good luck.
All the best to you! Felicia

Pegi,
I just wanted to say thanks for not follwing suit and making it seem like this forum is full of disgruntled notaries trying to bogard the industry.
This is a great industry that is currently on the down side of the cyclical. Felicia, if you market yourself correctly and you are a professional and willing to adapt to the current and not always assume that what was yesterday must remain today...you will be fine!

Many of the new notaries seems to feel $55 -75 is a good signing fee. Please don't accept those lowball offers as it has hurt all of us. Price your services according to the professional you are, with 10 years of experience. Make sure you have a good grasp of the HUD and how you explain all docs, including all the reserves, etc.....then role play a few packages with friends and families and you'll be fine. Good luck.
