Re: Are any CA notaries doing weddings?
I officiate weddings BUT not as a notary. I am an ordained minister.

I didn't think notaries were authorized to solemnize
marriage in CA - strictly as notaries, I mean...

Re: I didn't think notaries were authorized to solemnize
I'm also an ordained minister...I just wondered if this was a potential revenue stream. I haven't used the ministers license for weddings yet. But twice this week I've had clients come to me with marriage docs to notarize so I wondered about combining the two.
Loan signings are not paying the bills these days...trying to be creative.

Understood Felise...if you're ordained
why couldn't you do the ceremony - or is it considered a conflict of interest for the notary to be the officiant too..possible I suppose, though I don't see the issue.
Good Luck!!

Hat #1 = Notary, stamp, stamp. Hat #2, Minister, officiate,
officiate, creating a new family.
Two things, two hats. I don't see any issues either, Linda.

Re: Are any CA notaries doing weddings?
Here’s my understanding. To solemnize a wedding in California you need your stamp and to be an ordained minister. Want to become an ordained minister? Look up Universal Life Church. A few keystrokes and a few bucks should do it. In Orange County the couple has to secure the wedding license unless the minister is authorized to so. Getting that authorization means getting a very long line, like years. Other counties may be different.

Be sure to get some good training.
The training is really important. It's also inportant to know the law. For example, if couple tells you that they are already married you must see the license. Marrying a couple without a license is a huge no no! The ULC in Modesto may be able to help you with the training part.
