Different locations for signings
I just tried the search button and could not come up with the posts about strange and different locations for signings. Anyway, had one in a place never had it before: a beer distributor. The assistant manager could not leave until after 7 but needed to get it done today. Not fun to do it in this weather in a werehouse that has no AC. Fortunatly she was not a reader and we were able to do it quickly. Would have been done faster but she did have to stop and check out the customers. Didn't realize how many people stop in for a case of beer after work on a Monday.

A few months ago I had one at a flour mill...
I could not figure out where the office was when I arrived - luckily someone was outside in the parking lot and he knew where it was.

Location wasn't all that strange...but the borrower's had 2 goats living INSIDE with them. They revealed to me that the goats slept with them in their beds. I love my animals and all, but....I draw the line at sleeping with something that has cloven hooves! (They also had a BIG Cockatoo that had free flight of the house....bird poop everywhere!)

Wedding reception, but no the bride/groom :)
Drop dead deadline for docs to be signed that day. The venue was nice!

Fire Station. Bell went off just as we got to last doc.
Signed , and ran to get his hat, etc and ran for truck. Gave copies to wife. Few times at bars for owner or bar tender. "Nothing for me, thanks, I'm stampin' and then driving. "

Re: Fire Station. Bell went off just as we got to last doc.
I did one this year in a fire station, too, but I bet I had a better time at mine than you did at yours! At least I assume I was more able to appreciate all the hunky, good-looking fire-fighters wandering around - and the single guy I was signing was not the least among them! (Now if it wasn't for the fact that he was young enough to be my son... Oh well, I can still enjoy looking, though!!) No ringing bells, either.
I did another fire station signing several years ago, too, that was a much different experience. It was up in the hills not too far from me just a few weeks after they had dealt with a horrendous wildfire in the area (for which I was packed and ready to evacuate - but didn't need to, thankfully). On the way to the signing, I drove past about seven miles of completely burned out vegetation, except for a few islands here and there in the blackness where they had saved various buildings, including a good number of homes. Very sobering experience!!

How about the back end of a hay wagon at 95 degrees and the wind blowing 30mph...

Crab Boat; no gang plank even: so Up and Over The Side
was not pretty, except for the tall, strong deckhand they called "Dances With Hairspray" who helped me - now, he was flat-out-darlin', as a pirate might say.
Tailgate on a 45 min lunch-break on the night shift at a mill up in river in Toledo, OR. Used my handy-dandy mega-flashlight with stand, rocks for paperweights in the wind, with a Mrs miffed, kids in the cab, and to top it all off, a creepy gate-keeper. Earned a few stripes that night.
Judge's Chambers, now that was cool.
Beautiful consignment store - (went home with a couple of great buys).
Winery. (Yes, I took home a case.) Oh happy day.
I have more...

Last week I did a site inspection for an adult chat business
Call in, talk dirty to a hot girl. Umm, let's just say you do NOT want to see behind the curtain. That smokin' hot chick you think you're talking to is really a nasty redneck toothless skank sitting in her disgusting flea infested trailer chain smoking Marlboros and watching Jersey Shore while she whispers sweet nothings in your ear.

There is a former N/R poster who
does this for a living. I do believe she dropped her signing biz to do this full time. QUITE lucrative and she does have interesting stories to tell about her, ahem, customers

Al PLEASE tell me that you are speculating and that you have
NOT actually visited that particular trailer.
| Reply by MichiganAl on 7/12/11 1:49pm Msg #389476
No, not speculating.
I had to go in and take pictures of the setup. IN HER NASTY BEDROOM! AND she does the marketing for the business so she had all sorts of graphic photos on her computer which I got to see as she was searching for a copy of her business license. It was NOT pretty.

Such a day! A signing at the seashore - repost: It was
really oceaning out there today. Bumper-waves, crashing every which way; exited gulls fishing, and toes in the warm sand against a chilly sun's windage.
A kindly gentleman, who paints in watercolors, welcomed me in, and asked me to remove my shoes before leading me across the cold tile out to his odd studio: his glass-walled, sandy-floored, airy-ceilinged 'annex.'
There was a pot of Lapsang Souchong tea, that smokey favorite, with uniformly thin slices of lemon, cream, and sugar comfortingly arrayed on the tray. The driftwood table amazingly flat and sturdy, and his easel in the corner, a testament to his art.
He had been to this rodeo before, he said as he poured. Sailed this ship, been around this block. He liked brevity, the gist, the bottom line, and more tea.
As I sipped, memories flooded back from High Teas with my grandmother and Tassy Drummond 's veranda, C Deck, she called it, overlooking the Shasta Valley, and my favorite mountain on the planet - I presented the first page, snapping back to the stack, and accepted more tea.
We sipped, we signed and stamped, we oathed, and about half-way through, he excused himself. I heard the refregerater open, then close, and he appeared with cucumber and artichoke heart sandwiches, and napkins. Just like Tassy used to delight in serving.
Resuming our work, he kept our cups hot and perfect, my toes delighted in kneading the warm sand, and his eyes twinkled as he wove stories in between signatures. For the first time ever, a signer commented on a 'plumb' stamping. It was straight.
Mhm. As I knew it would, the marvelous company, the tea and lemon, the bright, crunchy sandwich wedges, those sunbeams and emery sand, and that job came to an end.
I discovered that little bench I used to take off my shoes and socks offered a mystery-mat that got all of the sand off - without tickling. Simplify. With tea.
Tell the truth? I didn't want to leave.
Hm.

A few places I recall.
One was late at night, about 11:00 in a very bad neighborhood. My GPS took me to an industrial section. I got out of the car and was looking around for the address. I was scared of gang members jumping out, but I did not see anyone. Finally I found the signer. I was a young man who worked the night shift doing welding and we were signing in the welding shop. He wanted to know how he could do my job. That made me mad: He schedules me to come down to the worst neighborhood in town, VERY late, makes himself difficult to find, and he thinks I'm going to tell him how to get into my pockets? FORGET IT!
Another time I signed at a "dog camp". This was where rich people drop their well-behaved and papered dogs when they go out of town for the week. There were two HUGE enclosures, both full of dogs: I supposed males in one and females in the other. All the dogs were having a great time socializing. LOTS of barking. Even in the office, Labradors all wandering around wagging their tails and sticking you with their wet noses wanting to be petted.
Once the signing couple both taught athletics after school at the high school. They wanted to take turn signing on the bleachers: Hot uncomfortable and windy. Since they signed one at a time, it took twice as long.
Once I went to a MANSION. As I knocked on the door I wondered if I should use the "servant's entrance". A handsome guy came to the door with his gorgeous wife. I recognized him as a local real estate guy on bill boards in town. He was very nice, He said, "Just give me the papers". He went through them all quickly in silence, signing as he went, and handed them back perfectly signed. (Wife was not on title. Hmmmm.)
That is all the adventures that I can recall right now.

An ORE BOAT on Lake Superior, had to crawl up a 40 foot ladder, walk down a 350 foot walkway and then up another ladder, the cook had to sign or lose her lock and rates had just went up!! All this in the pouring rain and high winds. Got off just before they were leaving.
That was my most unusual location. Campgrounds, RV Parks, Ice Rink, Football game, and in the car when it was 30 below, I couldn't get down their driveway!!

I did one at a garage sale on a Saturday morning. The husband was right handed and the wife was left handed. They signed each doc at the same time! I was there about fifteen minutes. Nice money maker.
