Fax Back Issues
I don't understand, all the issues with "fax back docs" to different vendors?
Is the issue money (probably) or not having a "fax back capability" or just annoyance in having to fax back?
I have a dedicated fax line (yup! old school since 2002) so it is easy for me to put the fax back docs in my MFC Brother 8860 and hit the button.
I pay AT&T approx $ 30- $35 per month for this dedicated line and I actually have a telephone with this machine . I don't have a land line at my office.
Most of the faxed back docs I do per month are the 5-6 packages that I do for the annuity companies like JW Wentworth/etc and they require the entire 25-30 pages faxed back immediately after the signing and new home loans closings in the Inland Empire that require fax backs.
My question is: if you sign up with a company like www.myfax.com, can't you just scan and send faxes for around $10 per month?
I think the $30-$35 I pay per month is an indulgence on my part and I am not going to change my fax from AT&T because I am comfortable with it and willing to pay the price per month.

I can't speak for others, but for me, it's having to return to my office to do the faxing. It's an additional block of time spent and then, of course, having to go back out to drop the package. The cost of the actual faxing has nothing to do with it (for me, anyway).

Yes, that's the issue for me too..
the trip back to the office then an automatic 30 mile round trip (and special trip out) to drop the package, especially when I'm closing right near a Kinkos or FedEX/UPS courier..

I hadn't thought of the inconvenience.
I was meant to be a notary loan signer!
I live across the street from a UPS Store and I walk the dog to either the FedEx drop box or UPS store . Cheers

I now realize my location to drop places is very unique but, I can have docs picked up at my location.
Is the pick up by FedEx or UPS the problem for most notaries?

Don't know about *most* notaries but I cannot
get pickup service from either one at my location - companies have tried - they won't pick up from me...AND we have no FedEx or UPS drop boxes in my town - so trek 15 miles to drop the package

I think the pickup cost from your home is...
at least $15-$30 extra. That's why a number of companies say do NOT call for pickup. I've seen it that you will have to pay for it out of your fee.

Speaking for myself (& probably others, too): 1. Have old working fax...can't rationalize replacing in slow market. 2. Can't drop on way home so must make 'extra' trip to drop after faxing. 3. Faxing frequently can't happen until all appts. are completed, delaying the drop 'til the next day. 4. Low population/volume area--unnecessary expense. 5. No matter how fast, automatic it is, it's still more labor/time spent that they generally don't want to pay for. 6. Don't want add'l expense of dedicated line and faxing ties up line for quite a while with a large package. 7. The constant downward trend of work/fees & corresponding increase in time/costs. 8. Yes, the annoyance factor....for something they probably don't need and may not even look at until they practically have the originals in their hands.

Lee nailed it ! Joan, as you realized yourself,
we all have unique situations which dictates how we choose to work. I use to get $125 and didn't fax so offering me $85.00 and telling me I have to fax doesn't work for me. Yes, that's a problem for me.

Joan, with MyFax $10/month covers only 100 outgoing pages
You can also receive up to 200 pages for no additional cost. If you exceed these limits, you pay extra per page. I don't remember what the extra cost is because I have never exceeded those limits. I have this service primarily for incoming faxes, but have been thinking about cancelling it since I have a Notary Rotary fax # too.
If you're going to scan it anyway, you may as well just email it instead of sending it via MyFax. There are also some file size limitations with their system.
For me, it is the time it takes to do this. It is an extra service and my time is worth something.

Re: Joan, with MyFax $10/month covers only 100 outgoing pages
Agree w/ Lee. Biggest issue is they don't want to pay additional for faxing. It is time consuming and requires an extra stop before dropping. Unless you do a huge volume (daily shipping) w/ FedEx and UPS they won't pick up for free. They will pick up on some customers' accounts for free because the customer does volume w/ them but that's not the norm.

my solution to this ridiculous request
I have always hated that they pay less but make more demands on the notary. Living in a small town, which most can identify with, the pick up is not close by and means a special trip home and then back out BEFORE 3:00 when fed ex picks up from the only location in my area (or drive an additional 30 miles each way to get an hour later pick up)
my response to this was to get a light weight very inexpensive fax machine and fax from the client's home. When I was doing signings I never had a problem with them allowing me to do this. Of course I explained that it got their loan process started quicker.......
But I so agree that they rarely't even look at the faxes before the ON'd package gets to their desk jmo

They dont want to pay for the service
And like someone else pointed out, it's having to make an additional trip back home to fax 'within 1 hour' or some other quick time while we are out handling appointments.
I don't have a problem with faxbacks as long as they PAY an additional fee for the service. I also have a traditional fax machine as well but I still incur expenses to operate it monthly.
This is why I prefer to deal with reputable companies who know the professional level and caliber of my work and don't feel the need to 'check' to make sure I did my job properly, JMHO.

Re: They dont want to pay for the service
I honestly believe they are suppose to FAX the Docs to the lender themselves but getting us to do eliminates a step on their end, since all they do is forward the Fax's Docs on .IMO

Re: They dont want to pay for the service
I never considered that. But either way, they should still be paying for the fax service.

Back in the good ole days my solution
was to keep the small scanner in the car, and scan/email on site with my laptop. Today's volume in my market discourages me from even bothering with it. Most of the purchases I am handling are in a professional office setting, and I usually just fax before I leave. If things went back to a volume of refis, I would reinstate the small scanner and laptop. It was very handy and mostly convenient.

Thanks for the responses
As I said earlier my situation with a UPS Store & FedEx drop box makes my situation very unique.
