He wasn't always Engelbert??!!!!????? And, he's now 75!! Where did the years go? I used to clean house by his music and my 2 kids were less than 10 yrs old. They're now mid and late 30's. Guess time isn't waiting for me either ....

No, in the late 50's (he started recording around 1958), early 60's when I saw him on TV he went by the name of Gerry Dorsey. He was doing OK, but he got TB or something and stopped singing for several months. When he resumed his career he wasn''t doing so well. He recorded quite a few singles but none of them ever made the hit parade. Tom Jones' manager suggested he change his name to Engelbert Humperdinck (after the composer). He didn't do well even under that name until he recorded "Release Me" (was his 3rd record since changing his name).
