Ipad2

Last week there was some discussion about ipad's. Well, I hadn't used it for work and didn't know how I would. Had a closing the other night, bo did not want to sign one of the title docs. He called his LO
and the LO asked him to fax him the doc, bo's fax was broken. LO asks BO to scan and email, man has no idea of how to do that. I ask bo if he has wi-fi, he does, he types the password into my ipad, I take picture, LO has doc in his email in less than 2 minutes. Love my ipad2. Ipad3 rumored to be out in Sept.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm curious about those. Do they require an aircard or separate data plan, or can you connect through any wireless connection?

I'm so technically ignorant I don't even know what an aircard is. You can buy them with 3g or 4g, again I don't know exactly what that means but I think it means you are always connected to the internet, but there is a monthly charge like a cell phone. I didn't want a monthly charge so I didn't get that kind. We have wi-fi in our house so it works everywhere around our property.

When I went to my brothers house's in FL and CO he had wifi in both so I could connect.
It was really nice, I could watch HBO in the quest room where there was no tv and read the book I downloaded.

Our son went to NYC and he said basically the whole city has wifi that you can tap into, DC is probably the same but I haven't taken the ipad there yet....taking it to Mexico in a few days, I've got my eticket confirmations, transfer confirmations, passport copies and hotel info all plugged in. I'm taking paper copies too in case something happens.

You can also hook them up to a printer, that will take me some time to figure out!

Mine was $499 with an inscription on the back, my husband put my name and phone # (in case I loose it, wishful thinking it might be returned) Hope that helps.

*ps, I think Brenda said some companies offer a pay as you go plan.

I am tech ignorant in some ways, but would like some clairifaction. When you say wi-fi, does that mean wireless? My laptop is wireless and we have a router. Is this what you mean? Thanks

Yes, the ipad automatically picks up all available wifi signals within it's range. In my house, about 5 or 6 show up (my neighbors) they are all secured so I can't tap into them... except mine because I have the password. When I was at the Denver Airport, McDonalds in FL a wifi connection popped up automatically that was available (not locked/secured) and I just hit 'agree' to their connection and was in. At my bo's house it was a locked wifi connection, he just typed in his password and I was online. It's so confusing, that is why I usually just let things like this pass me by, but this is one gadget I'm thrilled with.

Once again, a stupendously useful review. If I had a

company with a great widget, I would hire you in a hot tick to use and review.

As a total non-techie consumer, for all that the iPad2 does, even the low-end WiFi (which I pronounce Wiffy) - sounds like a dream. But then, with hype-galore, there's always the newest, fastest, bigger-than-life thingy just around the corner, dang it.

Given that there's a newer iPhone than mine that does everything I need, I think I just bought myself my Birthday Present to me, and just live without the newest, fastest, yadda yadda yadda come September.

You keep knocking it out of the park, A Notary in VA, and many, many thanks.

I am definitely technically challenged. Just want to say that upfront - I am also a bit on the paranoid side and have read some things I don't like about WiFi connections - bogus ones that show up in public places and can tap into wonderful things like your bank acct., etc. Am I just being paranoid or is this a legitimate concern. Currently I have my wifi setting off on my i-phone.

Susan, thanks for the kind words, sending you a pm.

Carolyn, I'm definitely on the paranoid side like you. One thing that my ipad does that I don't like is it always wants to use 'my current location' . There is a way to turn this feature off but I don't want to. Let's say I'm walking around Puertos Adventuras looking for a taco, I can turn it on and find one...it gives me turn by turn walking directions. For that I will use it, but in almost every case that the 'use current location' pops up I deny it. It happens with my weather app all the time, I just deny and put in my current zipcode. As far as it gaining access to my bank acct, I suppose anything is possible, but that is password protected with a different password, plus I don't have any of my banking info on the ipad.

Just downloaded an app that is called redlaser, it reads barcodes and tells you where to buy a product cheaper........that's going to be fun, particularly with stores that will price match. I tried it with a book (the only thing handy)and prices came up from 99 cents to 15.99. If I had allowed it to 'use my location' it would have pointed me to local retailers.

Again, news you can use. You should write user manuals. n/m

Totally agree with Susan's comment. More useful info.
