Job already done
I accepted a job on Monday at 3:15 to pick up some medical papers, notarize them and then mail them back. First try the lady that is in charge of medical records was out of town. Today I tried again, she told me that someone else had already picked them up on Monday. Would you all at Notary Rotary still charge the company that hired me to do this job?

Excuse me that was on Tuesday when I accepted the job. When I went by there today the lady over medical records told me that someone had come on Monday and picked them up.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. Never just go there without a confirmation that the right person is actually there.

Are you sure it was the same job?
Sometimes there is more than one case in progress for which records affidavits are needed. Did you verify the case # or patient name with the records custodian?

Was the "first try" a phone call or did you make a trip?
I always call to make contact with the records custodian before making a trip, so I probably would not charge the company in the scenario you described.

This kind of thing happens all the time. I would not charge if I did not make the trip.

I wouldn't charge because you didn't complete an assignment. You might call the co. to see if they are willing to pay you a trip fee.

Are you sure? I'd check with the hiring company again.
In physician offices they usually have many of these requests during the same week. It is possible that the other person took not only the job she/he was assigned but yours as well, maybe without knowing it at the time.
I would contact your hiring party and ask about the file/doc in question. If they do not have it ask that they send you the job again, print it out and take it with you.
I have had record custodians try and give me all the records requests at once. I had to inform them that I had only been sent for "John Doe" and that they would need to contact the requesting party regarding the other requests. Eye rolls followed...
It is possible that this happened to your record as well.
So how do you feel about HIPPA now? LOL! Some safe keeping I'll say. In their defense many physician offices around here realize I'm a doctors wife and let their guard down.
