Notary picyture ID requested by Lender

I did a purchase with mortgage closing and the lender is requesting a copy of my D.L. or picture ID. I don't understand what this has to do with the loan. Seems if they wanted anything it would be my commission #. Actually, the SS is supposed to supply the copy. This is a new SS for me and the didn't request any credentials other than a W-9. When I brought this up with the SS I was told to put a copy of my ID in the pkg.

Should I put a copy of my DL in the package? It doesn't feel right.

Commission #, W9, OK. Can think of no possible reason a Lender would have for a copy of your DL. If it wasn't a prerequisite for getting the job done, it's not needed after the fact, either.

While some make a big fuss about this, I've supplied it on a

couple of occasions. VA doesn't have ss #s on the d/l anymore, so why not? It's all info that's available to the public anyway. I always clearly mark "copy" accross the front of it, though.

I black-out the DL # and birthdate.

Just black out everything (including the photo) and leave only your name and address.

One company asked me to send them a picture of myself.

They email it to the bwr so that they will know that you are the correct person when you
show up for the signing.
Not a bad idea when you think about it.

Maybe not a bad idea...but this about this

We've made verbal contact, I've introduced myself and discussed the appointment with them and confirmed directions to their home. Approximately 10-15 minutes prior to the appointment time I show up at the door, briefcase in hand and introduce myself as, lo and behold, the same person who spoke with them on the phone. I just ALSO happen to have their loan docs in my briefcase AND business cards in the name I gave...together with my DL if they ask for it.

Given all of this, do we REALLY think a photo in advance is necessary?? I don't....especially when that advance photo has been faxed or e-mailed several times in between - it's probably distorted or clouded beyond recognition by the time they get it.

I agree Linda, unless we waited in the bushes & ambushed the

notary! Afterall, signings are scarce these days! :-)
