Universal Notary, Rancho Mirage, CA
I worked with Joe several times this past year. I enjoy working with him. No hand-holding, he pays well and quickly.
HOWEVER, just received his email with an Independent Contractor Agreement. There are several items I cannot agree to and will strike through and initial and send him a explanation for each.
Interestingly enough, one of the items reads: "Contractor shall also maintain the status of “Certified Notary Signing Agent” with the National Notary Association." I am certified - just not through NNA. I refuse to deal with NNA.
Hmm, wonder if NNA counseled him in getting ICA from his notaries .....

Yoli, do you think he just landed a contract that requires him to use "certain certified" notaries? Good question to ask him. 2nd question I would ask is what's the difference between the various "certifications" of the vendors? Something else to consider, I've lost 1/2 of my NSA business because I refuse to complete/sign those. I remember when I asked a highly regarded notary on this forum, he told me he doesn't sign those either.
If it's gonna hurt your pocketbook and you can't afford it you just might not have a choice.
I'm not paying twice for a background check which is what it will be if you have to get "their" certification.

I just check my email and found the same message. Haven't
read all of the Independent Contractor Agreement because I was distracted by Exhibit B. Looks like I too will be sending an updated version of both items.

Universal Notary just gave me an assignment, and after I had already confirmed the appointment with the Borrower and got the docs from the Escrow, Jackie e-mailed me to cancel the order "per Joe, her boss" because the Escrow asked them to do it for cheaper, so they will be working with another notary, their "regular", that can do "favors" for them. Very poor business practice, I would say!!!
