Vignature - not online notarizations but verifying signature
From what I'm reading, this is a use of electronic signatures and transmitting documents electronically using PDF formats. No mention is made of notarizations using online cameras, although the article does state--when using electronics processes such as this--the questions become 1) is the process secure and 2) is the person who is signing who they say they are.
I know there is a process where identities are confirmed but the signatures aren't notarized (I think this is the TEA certification from the NNA), but I also think that some of the general public may start referring to or thinking what Vignature does as notarizations. It's not. And that may start a whole new set of problems for notaries.
I welcome your opinions.

Thanks for the info. I guess they can adopt any standard they want, but I don't see how they are going to get anything recorded under this setup. I see that they did not mention recorded documents.

I don't think it will a big deal for us notaries. In order for anyone to sign documents, the document has to be pulled up in Vignature. You would think that if a person who needs something signed and notarized through this company, that by the time they go through the process they would be well aware that signing a document through Vignature does not mean that the signature on the document would be notarized. If a notary gets a job to notarize a document, I'm sure that somewhere in the conversation, the document in question would be brought up. The notary will learn that the document is online and it will raise a lot more questions where the notary will figure out what is going on and that the signature is only being verified. I think that this process is more for businesses that have locations and clients all over the world and it will be a much quicker way of getting transactions and deals completed more quickly and maybe less costly since docs aren't being overnighted all the time.
