Bad, bad, bad company!

Here's a lulu. Nationwide Signing Service sent me a rubber check. It bounced. (I know, I know, I get what I deserve for not checking SC.) But here's the kicker. Then she said she was going to send me a check plus the bank fee. She said I'll receive it in 2 days. I received the check today but it's made out to someone else. That's a novel way to get around paying notaries. Just send the notary somebody's else's check. Real cute!

Sorry to hear that,..tell us..how many days did

you have to wait for a rubber check, not meant to be funny. 30? 45?

When I accepted their job, they told me they pay net 30. Yeah, right! It's been almost 60 days.

why not give them the benefit of the doubt

I do not know this company, so cannot comment, other than to say that we all make mistakes from time to time. I can understand your fustration, but do you reall think they would really bother to send you someone elses's check intentionally? Who in their right mind, would run a business that way? Why would they set out to make their books & workload more complicated by design by sending out "fake" checks.

Re: why not give them the benefit of the doubt

It just may be a coincident. I have gotten other notaries checks, I just call them and tell them I got their check and ask them where they want me to mail it. Hopefully that's the case, but it does happen.

Re: why not give them the benefit of the doubt

This is a game they play, Sheila. ANYTHING to delay payment.... the check that is in someone else's name is probably not even a notary - just a name they made up.... another scam is to send out a check unsigned..
"Oh, sorry, bookkeeping mailed out all those checks and forgot to have me sign them. Just go ahead and sign it yourself." WTH!??!? I don't think so.
Another delaying scam is to sit on the checks until you call in and ask where's my $$. I could go on ... but this doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary. Sure, it's extra work, but it keeps them from paying, (especially important to a SS that has already written a check for whicht hey have no funds to cover) which is the whole point.

Re: why not give them the benefit of the doubt

Well, who in their right mind would send a rubber check? I told her (Christine) that it is a felony to send a rubber check and that she could be arrested. That is when she told me she would send me another check with the bank fee added. Then she proceeded to send me a check with the wrong name on it. On the envelope it had my correct name and address. So, yeah I smell a rat in the woodpile. Now, I've heard of everything. Nothing these company's do surprise me anymore. You can bet from now on I will be very careful who I take jobs from.

I signed for them in November and still get "call us back in 2 weeks" Today she said she personally was stuffing envelopes so she knew one would be coming!

HA! That's a good one. I just talked to Charlie and he said she (Christine) was no longer working for him. I wouldn't believe anything they told me. He said he is sending me a new check. I'll believe it when I see it. He gave me the address of the other notary so I'm forwarding the check to her. Hope you collect.

If I were you, DD/OR, I would send the check right back to the SS. Do not forward this on to the "other notary." Call me paranoid, but don't get involved. No good deed goes unpunished You do not want to be responsible in any way for this other notary receiving payment- especially dealing with this SS! It's their job, not yours.

Re: agree!

I received an NSF check from them.
I have since received a replacement check for the NSF check . I am now waiting to see if the second check bounces!

I think you're right. It would be better to send it back to the SS. Thanks!

If he gave you the address of the other notary, and your name was on the envelope for her check, maybe you should touch base with her and see if she got YOUR check by mistake. Or any check, for that matter.

I could see a game like this being used to extend the time for them to cover the checks by a few more days. It's no additional bookkeeping for them if the checks were actually cut properly; all they have to do is pretend it was an honest mistake, provide the right address, and then ask the notary to forward it. That probably buys them an extra week (or more, depending on how long they can dodge the phone calls).

Yep...they bounced a check to me, too. I waited 52 days to get the check that bounced. They said they'd send a cashiers check for my fee plus $25. They did send a check, but it was not a cashiers check. So far, it has not bounced and it's been about 2 weeks since I deposited it.
They are on my No-No list now.

I also am waiting to be paid for a signing in August. I did a job for them back in December was paid, was paid in February. BUT check bounced, received replacement check two weeks later and it bounced. Received another check a week later and it cleared. They did wind up paying me $75 additional for bank fees. The excuse at that time was switching banks. Since the voluntarily paid the additional $75 I thought this was a plausible excuse. Now I'm waiting for a check for the job in August. I will keep hounding them until I (hopefully) get paid. They are now definitely on my NO list.
