Donations to Japan 100% BENEFIT
received this from a fellow traveler. If you want to make sure 100% gets to the intended Disaster relieve fund the following information can help you.
Everyone!
Some people have been asking me if I knew where/how to donate for the Japanese Disaster. Today at the Japanese American National Museum where we volunteer, several suggestions were made.
This is the one we will donate to--more of the funds donated go to the victims compared to some of the other organizations, like Red Cross, although that is another venue for donations if you like.
If you wish to donate, make the check payable to:
US Fund for UNICEF
"Japan Disaster Fund"
Mail to:
Japanese Chamber of Commerce Foundation
244 S. San Pedro St. # 504
Los Angeles, CA 90012
phone: ( 213) 626-3067
The foundation will collect all the donations and will forward them to UNICEF at the end of April.
Hope this helps! Please forward this if you wish, to others who might want to donate to this fund.
Thanks!
Midori

Don't get me wrong...UNICEF is a great organization and 4 star rated. I like seeing lower administrative costs on charities I donate to though so the folks in need get more bang for the buck.

I just want to make sure the people of Japan get as much of my donation as possible. There is a young woman who moved her orphanage fundraising program to Japan. She started one post Thailand-tsunami. 100% of her funds go to the orphanages she starts up. She's already in Japan working her magic.
Most of the people lost to Japan tsunami are senior aged citizens.

Re: .91 of every $1.00 (Red Cross) goes to victims...
Well, I certainly don't believe that .91 of every dollar that the Red Cross receives goes to the victims. Case in point 9/11. They received approximately 90 MILLION dollars - they shelled out 35 MILLION and kept the rest "in reserve" in case there was another disaster - that is the reason that Mrs. Dole quit as director of the Red Cross. She didn't agree with their policy. I don't either. Another case in point, when my brother died in France a few years ago. He was a retired Navy Captain. I called the Red Cross to either get some assistance or information on how to get him home - they kept giving me - call this number, call this number, they did that six times and then at the last number they said, sorry, we cannot help you! But I couldn't get any assistance from the VA, the , the Navy or the American Legion either. Finally I called my congress woman and she got on it - kept calling me to see if there was anything else she could do right up to the day I went to Orlando to pick up his ashes. She also helped me with Arlington National Cemetery.

Re: .91 of every $1.00 (Red Cross) goes to victims...
You are totally correct about the Red Cross. I worked for them at the time of Hurricane Andrew. We had a company try to donate a kit that contained a razor, soap, comb. A personal grooming kit. They took them but put them in the dumpster. I called the Salvation Army and told them to get them out of the dumpster. They wanted CASH. Also my boss was ***Highly paid as was her boss** I handled payroll so I knew what everyone made. My boss was also going to the tanning booth, having nails done, hair done, all on company time. I quit after 6 weeks because I was totally disgusted. I did write Elizabeth Dole and her reply was denial. To this day, I will never donate to the Red Cross EVER
