I tend to be somewhat informal...

...and jocular during signings. Borrowers seem to appreciate making what in Texas is a really tedious process more bearable, and many have commented to that effect. When the borrowers' demeanor signals that it is solely a business transaction to them, and they want it over with ASAP, there is an immediate shifting of gears to conform with their desire.

The pre-programmed and well-rehearsed format has just been justified by The Daily Beast, which found Austin to be the funniest city in the country. In fact, of the top 20 cities, five were in Texas.

The website's ranking may be a bit suspect to anyone who knows Texas metro areas, though, because Waco came in third in the whole danged country. Waco, a bleak flatland prairie armpit of a municipality, is the home of Baylor University, the world's largest Baptist college and one of my alma maters. Waco has one skyscraper, the 26-story Amlico Building downtown. Former Gov. Pat Neff once described the town as "a tall building surrounded by Baptists."

Of note to all you signing agents out on the Left Coast: Not a single California city made The Daily Beast's list of the 30 funniest cities in the U.S. I'm not sure how I would handle that, whether I would try to brighten the borrowers' lives a bit, or just commiserate with them in their obvious misery.

I agree that we should try and smooth the entire closing process; we are there partially for the borrower’s convenience, and at their expense.
However the observations made by the “Daily Beast” (whatever that is) are in my opinion flawed. Obliviously none of their statisticians has ever been to REALLY funny cities like: Mumbai, Jakarta, Karachi, Johannesburg, or Patterson, NJ. I can’t help but smile just thinking about them.

'bout 1800 miles from Paterson. Ok... can't please everyone.....I take it back... Paterson really isn't all that funny when I think about it ...maybe Passaic?

Note of protest: Lincoln City is funny - just look at us -

we're hysterical.

Personally, I brighten borrowers' lives every day just by showing up with my happy mug, and that's just for starters - then - it's every wag for himself. Happy happy.

I'll wait for the ~actual~ list - from the Weekly Beast, thank you very much.
