Oh, my, what an offer.
Gee, I was about to post something similar except I want to visit TX for a while and have someone host me, free company in evenings. Wonder what now?

Sweetie, I haven't even started yet. This is not Craig's List, where you post until sale and then take off the listing. This is here through perpetuity. The upside? You don't have to relist your post either.

Such a total lack of humor displayed here today -
Lighten up folks. It's Springtime, business is on a downhill slide and there are a couple of issues at hand in the original post.
Confidential information passed willy-nilly is a no-no as much as I can determine.
One stranger in a house is one, two is sometimes one too many.
Competition is great, when it does not become a free-for-all. I gave up mentoring and teaching when the competition became too fierce for the area. This area is saturated (Central FL) and I don't know about N. TX because that is heap big territory - just North Tx? Not enough info, post not linked, falls under anonymous poster rule.
Also, worked for SS possibly in TN - who do you think of? Closing Quest?
I have several people I refer to and work with in FL....I am one and cannot do all. NR people always come first, and with one exception, premier members are first. Just my MO.
I don't think I was mean either, but your perception is yours. that is ok.

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
Susan, I'm not quite clear on what you meant by "I'll try to figure out how to take this down," so I'm chosing to ignore that comment. With regard to your request to accompany another SA as an observer, I don't think that you'll have much luck finding someone who is willing to do that for you because you see, in this business climate, most of us are holding on by the skin of our teeth to the clients we have and we will not be inclined to be assisting a competitor (because that is what you actually will be) to enter the arena. Your best bet is to just market yourself in that state, read up on the laws from that state and develop your own clients. Good luck.

Susan, that is asking someone to train their competition, so I doubt you will get any takers. Not trying to be mean - it's just the reality of the situation.

I've trained lots of people in this industry
Many still work for me, some became "friendly" competitors, some got "real jobs" and left the business. I know many notaries who work as teams and back up each other. It's not unusual.
Feel free to register your info at our website, we cover TX too.

Susan, Welcome to Texas. I am in Weatherford, 30 miles west of Ft Worth on I-20. Where are you in Texas and where were you in TN? I think you understand most of our assignments do not allow us to take "company" with us. It really falls under Federal rules of protecting the information of the client. That is why we need a background check. Signing in Tx are not much different than in TN. My phone is (cell) 817-613-7002, please call if you have questions.

I would just like to say that from the standpoint of someone who utilizes notary rotary to hire agents, it is just plain sad to see how some people represent themselves on this board! You have potential contacts reading what you post people! Kudos to those of you who answered this question with tact and grace. I have nothing to say about the other comments!

As a potential client as well. We consistently monitor the notary forums to see what kind of professionalism is out there. We note in our system who to call and avoid. Kudos to the SA's that help others develop and build our industry.

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
I seldom post. I am a NSA and I own a signing service. Many of you that post here have worked with me. When I have time I too read some of the posts on this board. I regard the posts on this board as the OPINIONS of those posting, and as such these posts do not relate to work performance, or professionalism. Dealing with the public often requires understanding, patience, wit, and a sense of humor, and in this business, attention to detail. We like to work with people that have these attributes, regardless of their opinions.

Victoria and SLB...you both have to admit
most companies don't approve of a ride-along.
I've had packages with SPECIFIC instructions - do NOT take anyone with you to the closing...nothing about "without prior approval" - just "do NOT take anyone with you"... if this is not included in the loan package it's been instructed previously when I signed up with the company.
And there is that whole privacy thing to worry about.

Linda, I have never gotten instructions like that b4 however
I usually will let my clients know if we are training and if there will be an assistant trainee accompanying the primary closer to a closing.
The borrowers are advised that another person will be with the primary closer.
In 17 years in the title/settlement business, it has never been an issue.
Nor was it when I'd take real estate agent trainees to me with listing presentations, etc.
Is it any different than if you have an assistant, one of your kids or your spouse printing out the loan docs for you?
Food for thought. . .

"Is it any different than if you have an assistant, one of your kids or your spouse printing out the loan docs for you?"
If my business were large enough to warrant an assistant, the privacy and confidentiality would extend to them.
However I don't have an assistant..and I've never had my spouse or my children print for me or have anything to do with my business - other than my husband giving a caller my cell phone number to call me directly .. I do it all - no one else sees it, works on it, discusses it.
AND, IMO, a notary's spouse or child should have no access whatsoever to any of the business dealings unless they are a partner in, a part of, or employed by, that business..

Funny thing, I also work for a signing service. And to clarify, I did closings in TN. I knew better than to post in here from my BAD experience in the past of the negativity, but thought that was a one time problem.
Thank you for all of you that replied with helpful information and for those of you that supported me.
Unfortunately, I will look elsewhere for help because clearly this was not the place. My mistake.

Don't you get it?
There is NO work for you to tag along with. The few assignments there are will not be shared to create more competition. It just simply is not going to happen.
Not to mention this country is oversaturated with notaries - notaries like YOU, who don't have a clue what they're doing, judging by your first post when you claim you "applied for your stamp", as opposed to applying for a commission as a public officer of the State of Texas.
Please, do me a favor. DON'T look "elsewhere" for help, because you are only going to hurt this profession any more than its already hurting.
Sorry if this is harsh, but I am really getting sick of people coming on here every day announcing they've decided to join the profession, as if there is just so much money to be made.

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
I agree that in a normal work environment - corporate office, retail sales store, a sales business, etc. - that people should work together as a team to ensure the success of all within the group, which then ensures the success of the company as a whole.
But being an independent signing agent/notary is a different animal and quite honestly there is not much work out there right now to willingly share with someone else. I have no problem referring a job out to one of my trusted notary friends in the area, and I have done so many times. However, they did not ask me to train them or if they could accompany me on an appointment. And my understanding is that it is quite frowned upon to have anyone else accompany you to the closing appointment. I have also read several stories on this board about notaries who have been stabbed in the back by the new notaries that they helped. I’m NOT saying that Susan would do that, just that it has been done to others who were trying to do a good deed.
Just to play devil's advocate, are signing services willing to mentor, train, and help someone else who is starting up a competing signing service?

As many of you know, I did that--mentored & trained,
including taking them to an appt. & going with them to their first signing. Sounds like sour grapes, but the moral of the story is don't train the competition. Saving grace is that at least I know there's someone who's out there that knows what they're doing.

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
Since I posted earlier I’ll answer. It’s taken me more than 20 years in this and related businesses to learn what I know. This knowledge is one of the things that separate my company from others in this industry. I’m always willing to answer questions for our notaries; but I don’t have the time or inclination to pass along my knowledge, customers, or my data base to my competition. This is a serious business to us, and we take it seriously.

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
Susan always paid me timely. Also, what many of you don't know is that I had a friend whose husband was dying of cancer. He was originally from Colorado and his wife was trying to find a poster of Pikes Peak to put on the wall in his hospital room. I contacted Susan, and not only did she drive out of her way to get a special poster, she Fedexed it to the hospital. She refused to allow me to pay her for the poster or the Fedex charges. The poster arrived at the hospital and the nurses allowed it to be put on the wall of his room. He passed away a few days later. Thanks to Susan he was able to "see" his beloved Pikes Peak before he passed.
Also in 2006 when I was in hospital, Susan sent me a beautiful basket of flowers when I was able to be moved from ICU. She had had the florist put a little angel in the basket. Even when the flowers died that little angel stayed by my bedside and was the first thing I saw in the morning when I woke up. I still have that little angel.

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
The only thing I know that would differ in Texas, from Tennessee, is the statutes governing helocs, or refi’s with cash out. Apparently these must be performed by an attorney, or in a title companies, or attorney’s office (under their guidance)? I’m in CO so I don’t know. I’m sure this information is available to you somewhere. As I see it, a crucial part of our job as a Commissioned Notary, and as a NSA, is to know our local and State laws, along with any Federal laws concerning our work. Perhaps the best way to be aware of these laws is not to ‘ride along’ with someone that may not really know what they are doing, but to study and learn them on your own behalf? JMO

Re: Anybody in TX want free company?
When I first started over 6 years ago, I was trained by SS (who happened to be a relative). I begged and begged him to go with me on my 1st signing. He would not. He met with me after I was finished and went over the docs with me. I missed 2 signatures and I called the borrower and I went right back out immediately to get them. That is the only way to learn, is to just do it, and fix whatever happens. After about 3 or 4, I was error free.
