Oops, went too fast.

I went back and read all of the comments in thread 375125 and, to me, there seems some major confusion.

IRS publication 463 (WWW.IRS.GOV, dated Feb 2011), is specific to Travel, Entertainment, Gift, and Car Expense. Mileage concerns are found on page 15. They do refer to Qualified Business Use of Your Home. This is found in Pub 587.

IMHOm it would be, to any independent contractor, or self employed individual 's benefit, to review these publications for the correct answers.

As previously stated, the taxpayer is responsible for the accuracy of their tax return. If you do not know what to ask your return preparer,or your preparer has not had any training (a current problem in most states) and it is done wrong, you pay the additional taxes, the fines, and any penalties.

Starting next year, all individuals that prepare taxes for money will be required to have at least 20 hours specialized training and their own Federal Preparers ID NO. For once, I agree with the government in implementing this process. Too many taxpayers are currently at risk.

Hope this info helps those looking for answers.
