Pistol-shaped notary seal press on eBay
This is a very unique item... an embosser shaped like a pistol, supposedly from 1886. I was tempted to bid on it but the bidding has gone up a lot.

Bidding is only at $15. I expect bidding will get a lot higher, there is 4 days left on the auction.

It looks neat, but it sounds like it is missing the bottom plate. I have a small collection of vintage notary seals, and would bid on this one if it were complete.
The 1886 date is the patent date; that may have absolutely nothing to do with when the seal was actually produced.

I do expect the bidding to go up... it is not something I
would ever use, but it is quite a novelty. Could you imagine the look on a client's face if they come in to get something notarized and you point a pistol-shaped embosser at them? LOL
The seal I usually use is one of those old fashioned gold embossers. I know that it is old, but I don't know exactly how old it is. I would imagine it is at least 50 years old. I had the original seal plates replaced with my own, and it looks a little worn but it has a lot of character IMO.

Re: I do expect the bidding to go up... it is not something I
The problem with using the old seals is that you have to get new plates to match what the seal can handle.
The ones I have in my collection have the original plates, which makes them collectible for me. But I will watch this auction and possibly make a bid, unless the price gets ridiculous. Thanks for posting the info.
