Promotional materials
Does anyone give out promotional materials to clients, other than business cards? (Such as pens, folders, calendars, etc.)
Just thinking...

Put those on your front seat! Give them to everyone.
If you went to the grocery store and handed thm out to everyone there, everytime you went, probably about the same percentage will call you for something as if you were targeting a specific audience....and that would be because they thave a "face" to put the the name and number. I would get some baggies, place a business card, you little pad of paper, the pen or pencil and a 3x6 sheet saying, "I'm Linda, I used to be a legal whiz gall in another life and now I stand ready to help you with your legal needs as a notary.....adoptions,......etc....because I am good at what I do and I, Linda, with my professional attitude can help you." Of course, I assume you would use your own words about your best qualities and why I should call you.
Thing is - if you don't get them out of your trunk, you are paying to haul these around. Why?
Sorry, didn't mean to butt in.

I love that idea, but I'm the same way - when I *do* get
materials made up, I forget to pass them out.

I don't think the pens matter - just get rid of them, or give golf pencills.
Just get your name/service out there!

I have a bunch of main notepads that I also forget to hand out along with some mini glue sticks. Yesterday I gave away a "pen again" because she loved it and said she could write again. What could I do?

Try to have your info printed on your "Pen again".

The promo items that I actually keep around are highlighters, small datebooks, magnetic calendars for the fridge, sewing kits, post-it pads (which you can get reasonably priced on occasion at the site for printing that starts with V).
Seldom do I use gimme pens, unless they are higher quality pens, and I don't use pads with too much of an advertisement on it because they distract me.
I will always keep things to clean my computer screen with.

I was thinking "medical" pads.

You mean like prescription pads? No...as I said
spiral top small flip notebook...and I think someone's shaking hands - a small logo..

LOL...pads with medical treatments, labs, or pills with lots
of writing, logos, or pills on them.
I don't have many prescription pads on my desk any more. The %#@$ doctors lock them in a drawer these days, or have them printed off of a computer. Dang hard to get a pad without picking a lock. Nurse Ratchet will send the popo to pick up the pad, plus the cost of fixing the lock, and the lock picker.
I read your description in your previous post. Sounds neat. I was just making it clear that I was not talking about why you were giving out.

I watch the National Pen promos. When they have their pens with the rubber grip and bigger barrel (I forget what they call them), I buy a large quantity. Haven't had any problems with the ink drying out. I always tell any signers that use those blue ink pens, "If you like them, you can keep them. They're part of my propaganda."
Those pens, along with my business cards, have been very inexpensive advertising for me. I leave cards on bulletin boards at restaurants, as well as with the tip on the table. I post them wherever I am allowed. I get a lot of vehicle title work from the cards I've passed out when doing something unrelated. That's why I always tell people that the business card is your best billboard, so be sure to put the right information on them.
I've considered getting the Post-It Note/flag notebook that NP is advertising in their catalogs. Not sure how that would work for my notary business, but for my other service, I think it would be handy.

I got that sample post-it notebook too
love it! I think that would be great if you have businesses to market to. I wouldn't give those to signers or just to general notary clients.

Hehe. Recent signing, Mr B was a Promotional Rep
who was on-the-road-alot, and Mrs B was an Elementary School Teacher - married about 35 years.
He gave me the coolest talking bobble-head, suction-cup-bottomed-pen, (and confided that he 'boo-hissed' it at the sales meeting, and it turned out to be a Bonanza.)
Nobody steals the 'signing pen,' and kids love 'em. Hehe.
