Thoughts on Your Website

I found this on a paralegal blog, but it is relevant to signing agents/ mobile notaries as well.

Linda, try this.

Linda try cleaning your computer ... system clutter. Not always, but when links don't work for me after I clean out my browser clutter it generally works after that.

I use System Mechanics and do it with one click.

Re: Linda, try this.

Is "System Mechanics" a software program you bought?

I often hear some pc clean-up service advertised (usually on the radio when I'm driving to an appointment) that I've wanted to ask about to see if anyone has any thoughts on it, but by the time I get back to my office, not only do I not remember the name of the website, I don't even remember I wanted to do it...

When it comes to having some service scanning through my computer, I'm not going to do so on the basis of an advertisement, but I think my pc could benefit from something like that. I appreciate any other suggestions along that line!

Yes, I purchased it years ago and just pay for the yearly update. I also have Advanced SystemCare (free version) on my computer that helps a lot. I downloaded it from download.com They do have a paid version, but I have not had the need to add it since I have the paid version of System Mechanics.

I'd be interested to know if others agree with this blogger that it makes that much of a difference in our business to have a personally de$igned website vs. a "Website Tonight" from somewhere like GoDaddy. I would think it depends more on what the end result looks like and the quality of the content vs. whether or not it was a template - as long as it's a decent one. I'm currently working on changing my website, so this is of particular interest to me.

I think the real problem is 80-90% of the notary/loan-signers don't have a website.

I don't understand why a business in 2011 doesn't have a website?

I think Janet's comment about the quality of content being more important in our industry is absolutely correct, particularly, when so few notaries have a website.

I knew I needed a website in 2003.

I see notaries post on notrot (not enough work calls/etc) and when I click on his/her profile link there is almost never a website.

At the bare minimum, on your profile, (on notrot), post a picture of yourself and once again 80-90% of the profiles don't have a picture.

imho...and what do I know... spelling, punctuation, grammar, brevity and a WORKING CORRECT LINK (shouting intentional) are very important. I've seen links in profiles supposedly to a website that wind up on some goofy page that has nothing to do with the person. Don't they check? If they are that careless with their own advertising, what are they going to do with/to someone's loan docs?

As for the website of the example you placed a link to: YUK!!! - Her site is very "busy", bad color selection, and hard to maniplulate - very wordy and doesn't appear "professional" like she preaches.
Just my opinion...

I think any person in business for themselves MUST have a website to market their services/products. I probably get up to 75% of my business from my website, along with referrals and repeat business - that's the key to marketing.

Not only do I think a person should have a website, but in this day of "social networking" should also have a Facebook business page, and LinkedIn page as well. I'm still "up in the air" on the Twitter thing, although I have a twitter account and have people following me.

So... if you don't have the tools needed to market yourself professionally, then don't expect much business.
