Two (possibly stupid) questions

1) Got a call from a loan signing company with a Maryland area code today. I missed it. They did not leave a voicemail. Figured they would email but that did not happen. Should I call them back even though I don't know who tried to contact me? What's the proper ettiquette in this situation?

2) Regarding W-9 forms. I'd like to minimize the amount of W-9's I am printing and faxing/emailing back to companies, and I am wondering if I can send back the W-9's without putting in the information asked in the "requestor's name and address field"?

1. I usually try to return the call whether they leave a message or not - acknowledge that I missed the call and can I help;

2. I never fill out the Requestor's information - only mine......I filled out one W-9, photocopied it and sign one and send as requested.

The stupid question is the unasked question

Agree with Linda. Also, do you have a tax ID so that you don't have to use your SS #? Lord knows how these people maintain their files, esp. since some of them change bookkeepers, lose their mail in their offices, etc.

I have my W-9 in my computer, signed. Can email at will. Same for other stuff they ask for all the time.

I also have all of my documentation scanned into my computer, signed and ready to go. When a request comes in, I email the required information immediately.

Matham, Like jba said, don't give out your ss anymore, at all. Get a tax ID number immediately. You can have it as soon as you fill it all out. It's a great way to keep your sensitive ID info safe.

My Maryland call today - don't know if they were connected

Was from a company (sorry, don't remember the name) supposedly as a follow-up to an email they sent out some time ago. They were recruiting notaries that would be interested in helping to market their debt consolidation service. I politely told them I wasn't interested. From the tone of the voice response, I got the impression that there had been quite a few phone calls but not many takers.

Linda - was it the woman who repeated

back to you the last thing you said, with every response?

I'm sorry, but I don't do those.
You don't DO those? What does THAT mean?!
It means I chose not to do them.
You CHOSE not to DO them. WHY?!
Why is really not important, it's my decision.
It's your decision. Really?!
Bye now...
