When you're ill...

I just did the unpardonable. Cancelled a signing two and a half hours before the appointment. I feel terrible about it!!

This was a job scheduled for last night; but the borrowers weren't ready. Then this morning Mr calls and says they're willing to sign today. So I call the SS to see if we are ok to sign, do loan docs need to be redrawn, am I still assigned to the job...?

SS, says Escrow gives it the ok.

We've switched locations, switched times, called Mrs..
I've even printed docs and filled out as much as I can on my certs. Headachy, sniffy snorty, must be allergies...

Afternoon; I'm at my 'day' job feeling headachey, quesy, sniffy snorty. I ask for a break and go to the drugstore and get some OTC meds. I can still do this signing after my day job. I've been trying to salvage it since yesterday.

Scheduled for 6:30, it's almost quitting time, 4:00. My head now feels that it may just be a nice thing if it would just go ahead and blow up. Quesy has turned into vomiting, the can do attitude has changed to weepy and whiney. I work at a school, so I know that this is probably the same thing many of the little carrier monkeys have been out with all week. (I'm teasing, I love these munchkins) I know several moms have said Drs are telling them to keep the kids at home; very contagious. Dratz.

After this I wouldn't blame the SS if they never called me back. Wish I'd turned it back long before.

Just not sure when the time is right to just toss in the towel. ?

Hey, life happens. People get sick...
I'm sure that the B's would not be real happy with somebody who is contagious, so you did everyone a big favor by cancelling.

On the other hand, I had a signing scheduled last week and when I walked into their home Mr was trying to comfort a sick child. Then Mrs came out and she looked like a ship wreck. She was sick and getting sicker by the minute she said. I asked her if she had a fever and she said yes and that she had just gotten out of bed (6pm). I said to them both that I cannot and won't stay here to do this. I even said that this was not fair to me and I told them someone would be in contact with them and I left. SS was not happy, but too bad. I would never do that to anyone and I don't appreciate someone doing it to me. You did the right thing.

I'm with Linda. I've gone to do signings where the borrowers were very, very ill....and I was really mad they didn't cancel or reschedule. I've had tax clients come to my office very sick (and last year, I got sick twice because of it) and it just irks me that people are so insensitive.
I've never walked out of a signing nor kicked a tax client out, in that situation, but last year, I cancelled on the same day of a signing because I was feeling so sick. The SS was okay with me going and spreading my germs...but I wasn't okay with it.
I also cancelled a signing with only a few hours notice because I had to put my dog to sleep. I couldn't quit sobbing; didn't figure I'd be any good at a loan signing. If the SS or Title doesn't use me again because I have a life that sometimes includes illness and sorrow, then so be it. I have to do what's right for me.

Ditto absolutely!

Dealing with others, two things must always be consider, you and them. If I'm not feeling will, I won't take any assignments that day. The borrower will usually tell you if they're ill, that a clue right there.....reschedule or don't take it. IMO

Did you have a replacement (referral) when you called the SS to cancel? Or did you return the job and then leave it up to the SS to find a replacement? Canceling because you're ill is not unpardonable. However, returning the job last minute with a "I'm sick, can't do the signing, good luck & hope you find someone" IS unpardonable - JMHO
