best companies to sign up with
I have been a notary for awhile now and want to venture out on my own and hire other notaries, can someone give me some recommendations as to which companies to apply with?

huh? You have no idea how to start a business? what a joke!
You sound pretty clueless, and I shudder to think what type of signing service you would be!

Excuse me for this...but I have to ask..
1. Do you have a substantial amount of working capital behind you to be able to pay your notaries no matter what??
2. How can you decide you want to "go out on your own and hire other notaries" and you have NO client base therefore no work to offer?

Re: Excuse me for this...but I have to ask..
If you mean by going out on your own and start a signing service where you will hire notaries, then you are not going to find the answer to your question here. Why would the notaries here give away the companies they work for so you can contact them and become a "middle man". I had my own signing service from 2003 until last year. You have to find the companies to market your business to yourself. Let them know you are a signing service and you can proved the signing agents for them and also that you can 100% guarantee the signing agents work. You have to have the capital so you can pay your notaries in a timely manner, not waiting until you get paid before paying them. You have to be able to pay your notaries whether the title company pays you or not - and some title companies will not pay if the loan doesn't fund for any reason, but you still have to pay the notary.
You can go through the company listings in signing central and contact any one of those companies. You really have to do your own legwork.

James...my best guess is the OP is a notary for
his/her employer and wants to go work on his/her own....possibly the employer is a TC or SS?

Love the entrepreneurial spirit! There always seems to be a lot of smarties on Notary Rotary love to make comments, I usually stay out of threads because of these ridiculous people....if you look on signing central you will find a lot of companies with good ratings. That could be a place to start! Don't worry about the comments you will get to know who they are, they are pretty consistent in their level of unhelpfulness. Good luck!

Hey Chrissy? Did you read the original post?
This OP wants to go out on her own and "hire" notaries...and for that I would not refer to SC.
Maybe I'm misinterpreting the original post.

What entrepreneurial spirit?
"Hi. I want to go out on my own and HIRE people to work for me. I have no idea what to do or where to start. Can someone here please direct me to your best companies so I can apply with them? Hello?"
That's not an entrepreneurial mentality in any way, shape, or form. That's an employee mentality. "Tell me how to get started and I'll get started. Show me what to do and I'll do it. I have no idea at all but if you'll just give me the companies and contacts YOU built up as an entrepreneur, I can start there. Thanks!" Sorry, this entrepreneur doesn't think that way at all and even from day one never did. And I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say there's not one entrepreneur in this industry or any other that ever succeeded with that kind of thought process.

Chrissy, the only RIDICULOUS people are folks...
like this OP! And for the record, most of the folks on this site are the BEST of the BEST, and the advice and recommendations given are nothing short of hard honest TRUTHS!
Though the OP may have the "entrepreneurial spirit", it is quite clear they have NO IDEA as to how to start a SS business!
In fact, the OP's question was quite RIDICULOUS....Seriously! "Which are the good companies to sign up with..." Sort of funny actually...thanks for the laugh!
Did the OP really expect folks to just give up their client list...DUN-DA-DUN (in the voice of Carlos Mencia - comedian!) ....of course folks here are going to snap!
That person might has well asked for everyone's DOB and SS # too!!
I totally agree with Sylvia's post!

Go to SC and look at the ratings. Go for the ones that are 4+ star rated. Then get on the phone and start cold calling. Be prepared to answer questions from whomever it is that you speak with about your qualifications, your education, your experience etc etc etc. Good luck.

Sorry, but that would be sending a SS to sign up with other
SS companies which, IMO, is absurd. How much lower do some people want the offers to go?
If I'm reading the OP correctly, he should be looking into contacting TC companies only to build a client base. However, with business the way it is, I would be looking to TC for my own signings. The pay is faster and better than going through SS companies.
If the OP was looking for SS companies to sign up for as a SA himself, then I would send him to SC. As for me, I am not going to accept any new assignments from SS companies that are farming out other SS companies work. 1) They can't meet my fees and 2) Already having trouble collecting from the few that I did accept over the last few months. Just too much trouble and makes no sense to me why SS companies are hiring other SS companies in the first place. But hey, that's me.

I'm going to risk getting lumped in with the "unhelpful" others, but my intent is to give you what I would consider some sound advice.
-- Our industry appears to be spiraling down; title companies are laying people off, and many are wondering if their phones are still working. In this kind of a market, no one has any incentive to publicly (or privately, for that matter) post a list of their best companies. The next best thing is the Signing Central tab above with a long list of companies and ratings that members of this forum have given them.
-- Most of the responses you received above are from people who have been in this business a good while and know what it takes to become successful. The tough reality is that your question is at a very basic level and it shows an ignorance of how our industry works. The assumption, then, is that if you don't know how to find this basic information without posting it here, as you've done, then you probably don't know what it will take to run a successful signing service - which is what you would be trying to do if you want to hire other notaries.
BTW, you didn't say if you have any experience doing loan signings, you just said that you've been a notary. Being very knowledgeable about loan docs and the whole process is also a critically important pre-requisite. I recommend you do a lot of research before you invest in venturing out on your own. There's no substitute for that - and asking unknown others is a pretty unreliable way to make such an important decision, imho.

Soooo....which is it? Signing Service or Signing Agent? If its Signing Agent, follow the others with their advice to go to Signing Central on here. If its Signing Service, research, research and research some more on the net. Get a business plan together, organize yourself, and get your database ready of reliable and knowledgeable Signing Agents to use. Also, when you get all your info together on how you are going to run your Signing Service, run it by a couple of people you know who may already run a business or maybe even a lawyer. For the love of God, dont go into it haphazard. You will be down before you know it and make lots of enemies.

Arm yourself. This is no CAKE WALK. Even those of us who've been successful at it have been reengineering ourselves for years to keep up with changing trends and regulations. There are a lot of other businesses you could start up with less hassle, trauma and competition. This is probably not the best opportunity for a notary with no loan signing experience. The work is very much different than it was 10 years ago when I became a full time CSA. Levels of background checking, E&O requirements, and certification by title companies are heightened, and your credibility is extremely important in this field, i.e., years of experience, who you work for now and knowledge/skills and tools.

Notary-Premier - have you ever owned/run a business before?
There's much more to it than just finding closers, that's the easy part.
Just asking, since your question actually leads in to Business 101. We offer business consulting services too and have helped create new, start-ups as well as consulting to existing companies looking to streamline and improve work flow and gain more business.
Most of our business consulting clients are title agencies, attorneys, etc.
As to which companies are the best to register with that are listed on NotRot, just go through SC to pick and choose.
But remember, right now, if you don't have a stable of good closers already in your pocket who you can immediately use, then how can you "sell services" to potential clients?
Get your ducks in a row before you start knocking on doors, make sure that you adhere to each state's requirements that you'll be doing business in (attorney state, licensed producer state, escrow state, non-regulated state, parishes vs counties, etc.)
Best of luck in your new venture.
